You're not going to get "the sound" without running uel headers. There are thousands of posts about intakes and exhausts. Take a look around, and I'm sure that you will find more than enough info to make your decision.
Sorry, I couldn't resist |

To get the true boxer rumble you have to have uel's. Irregardless, your car is not going to sound like a Civic just because you don't have uel headers

i have a magnaflow exhaust on my car with stock headers and cat. however, i did notice that your car is a 5 door. mine is a 4 door so i have dual tips.though it may sound different with the single tip, i can assure you. you will NOT sound anything like a honda. it is because of our engine configuration that forces the exhaust to not sound like a weed whacker. it has a nice rumble, but not the famed boxer rumble. if you give her a bit of gas and rev it, there will be a pop. i personally like it. its loud, but not obnoxiously loud (imo neways) tbh, exhausts for our cars just make it sound and look cool. not much else =p if you are gonna spend the money, get the full cat-back. its more for your money than just mufflers.
Now. on to the good stuff. Intake. first of all, i would highly recommend that you read willaty's sticky on intakes. it contains a lot of useful information that may or may not change your mind. it certainly has changed my priorities when it came to my intake. I can give you an answer as to why you were unsuccessful in looking for an intake for your vehicle locally. because only very few companies in the states make it. AVO, Cosmo Racing, and Injen is coming out with one for the 07s. the AVO intake is not really a cold air, but more of a air box replacement. cosmo racing seems to always be out of stock on the intakes for our cars. I personally am using the AVO intake. its an amazing product. yes there are issues with it. i am fully aware. yes i did lose power down low. but i did gain up top (4000+) if you are willing to take the risks, then go for it. its a great product, and rallitek has great staff if you have any questions. took me about 45 mins to install it. I am also planning to get the car tuned so i do not have a lot of worries with the intake messing up my mafv, a/f, or maf readings. yea i still worry, but not that much. tbh, in the end, we 08+ n/a guys dont have a lot to choose from. so i highly suggest you do your research, understand the risks with each mod you do, then proceed with caution =p thats my little advice to you. i made a few mistakes and learned that the hard way haha. |

Well your header is a part of your exhaust. So by saying you wanted to upgrade your exhaust for better sound we all assumed that you meant full exhaust (header back) not just a cat back. You can find gains in hp with a full exhaust. Example, i have borla uel headers, stromung high flow cat pipe, and apexi n1 catback. My car sounds mean and hhas that low pitched boxer rumble. It did cost quite a few bucks, but well worth it.

The car is a Subaru, it has all Subaru parts, so it doesn't sound like a Honda, it sounds like a Subaru. It doesn't sound like a turbocharged Subaru. It doesn't have a rumble, but that's more the type of headers that it has than anything else.
