Default Is an 07 WRX worth 20k?

Disclaimer: this is the first car I've ever tried to buy without the help of my dad or someone 'in the know' about buying a car, so please don't flame me for seemingly stupid questions.

I wrapped my 09 2.5i around a tree and have since been looking for an 06-07 WRX with low miles. Found a wagon at a local dealer for $20k with only 15k miles on it, never been tracked or modded, and driven by an older woman, according to the salesman. The car's kbb value puts it around 19k for a private party sale, and in the mid 22s for a suggested retail.
So, simply put, what would you pay for said car? I'm thinking that offering their suggested price, but including tax, title and reg is fair. For what it's worth, tax is 8% here, and it costs about $250 in DMV fees on top of that to register a new car.

Thanks to all that help!

Well, it's within the KBB prices. Just remember all cars were previously driven by an older woman just to go to church and get groceries.

Yeah, be sure to get a test drive and a carfax report before you actually go ahead and buy the car. Otherwise, it doesn't sound like a bad deal, though I wouldn't pay 20k for a GD* chassis WRX, since you can get effectively the same exact car (albiet with a different front end) for MUCH less. If anything, I'd look at used STI's, unless you're not terribly concerned with the idea of modifying your car, and just want a reliable turbo sedan/wagon made by Subaru (which is a noble endeavor, by the way).

My 2 cents

It's not the best price but it's acceptable. I paid $24K for 08 WRX just a few weeks ago. 17K miles. Some after market parts (STI springs, sport grill, trunk CF strip, Defi boost gauge, stubby antenna, 18" wheels, slotted front rotors and upgraded brake lines). I broke even on my 9 mo. old trade, so I'm not complaining. If I was buying the car without a trade, I wouldn't give them more than $22K. There is no tax here in OR, though. In your case, I would try and hit $20-$20.5K with the things you mentioned included.

Either pay a few grand more and get a new 2010 or 2011 wrx, or you can get a clean sti with under 50k miles on it for the same price, maybe lower.

I'd go for $19.5K out the door, shop around if you haven't already, GL!

You know, for less than a grand more you could've had the MUCH more desirable 09 WRX. Why'd you get an 08 with that many miles for barely under the 09 new price?

Well, technically, you could say it's less than that. My trade in was only 9 mo. old and I owed $9K on it. I payed 9.8K initially for my old car. They broke me even on that balance, even though the trade in on it should've been around $7K. You could say I payed 22K for the rex and 2K was added from the trade. Besides that, the aforementioned upgrades are easily worth a grand. Yes, I would love to get 2009 for the same price, but it was hard enough to fine this car in the area, let alone an unmolested 2k9. In fact, I originally was shopping for a 5-door Impreza Outback Sport. There wasn't a single M/T in the radius of 100 miles with reasonable price. My rex was only 4K more (than the ONLY M/T 5-door I could find), and I think it was well worth it. This is my first subi, so I'm content with it. If my taste doesn't change, next car will be a brand spanking new STi... probably 2016 lol

I only paid $23k for my 09 brand new. If a used 09 is really worth more than $24k consider mine for sale.

Idk wtf you get your prices either, actually. Edmunds' true market value for a 09 premium with 12,000 miles is ~25K. KBB would be about 3-4 grand more. You gotta realize prices here in NW are way above highly populated areas in the East.

You paid what a 2.5i is worth and not what a WRX is worth, so you don't count

just remember that most people if not most older people probably never check their oil let alone do their own changes.

Yeah, they just bring their car to the dealer or another shop to do the work for them

Just heard an article on the radio yesterday that said that used vehicle prices were way up from last year. It's atributed to a combination of increased demand for used cars as people pinch pennies, and also decreasing supply of used cars as people hold onto their cars longer. They said that in 2007 people were keeping cars and average of 28 months, and now it's into the high 30s/low 40s.

The prediction was that there would be some correction eventually, as priced climbed to the point where a new cars wasn't that much more than a used car. This would reduce demand and somewhat increase supply through trade-ins.

STEAL! I'd buy one for that much with that few miles in a heartbeat.

I bought my 06 brand new in 06 for 23K out the door. Used car pricing is getting ridiculous. This was in Bremerton, WA too.

I got my '07 wagon, with a sports package (17" rims, sports grill, rack rails, some chic shiny caliper covers) with 5900K miles for $19.2K. I would try and go somewhere between $17.5K - $20K. Definitely test drive it and get the Carfox!

Good Luck!!
