Default Which auto transmission fluid for a 2008 impreza 2.5i

Hi, I'm coming up on 30k on my daughters 2008 impreza 2.5i automatic transmission.

I'd like to do a transmission fluid flush or at the least a drain and fill.

Sorry, the car/manual isn't at my house now, so I can't check the manual.

Can anyone let me know what the proper auto tranny fluid or equivalent should be used?

I know with my volvo, I can use Toyota TIV fluid as a much cheaper but exact replacement. So I'm hoping there is a cheaper/exact alternative for the subaru.

Thanks.

Just go with OEM at your Subaru dealer. A flush shouldn't be necessary.
You'll need a T-70 Torx bit, long-neck funnel and approximately 5qt of ATF (I drained approx 3.22kg of fluid which is about 4.1 quarts of ATF). Yes, I weigh my fluids so when I replace it, I don't have to do the top-off guessing game.

But as for what the manual says:
- Genuine Subaru Automatic Transmission Fluid Type-HP
- IDEMITSU ATF HP
- Castrol Transmax J
- Dexron III ATF (temporary only)
