Pricing info from edmunds....

At a base price of $34,720 (including destination), the 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI Sedan costs $970 less than last year's STI five-door hatchback. If you're set on the hatchback sedan, it will cost $36,720; this is about a grand more than last year's five-door and it also includes forged BBS wheels, which were previously a $2,000 option. The 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI starts at $26,220, including destination. That's a $530 bump over the 2010 sedan and virtually identical to the price of the 2010 five-door.

I think they meant just the WRX in the second part of the paragraph. An STI for $26K would be a bargain!!!

The autoblog review of the WRX says pricing goes up by $1000...interesting results from 2 different sources

I was excited to see the minor price drop for the STI wagon, until I got to the part about the sedan version having a nearly $37K MSRP. Although it's hard to take the article entirely seriously when they refer to it as the "hatchback sedan" and then proceed to give the WRX price as the "2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI" price.

Theoretically the hatch msrp is up $1k, but the $2k BBS wheels come standard on it, so really its still $1k cheaper by that logic.

There's a typo there. Sedan is under $35k with destination, hatch is just under $37k, but the BBS option has become standard on it.

Besides the hatchback sedan genius, can anyone explain how Sedan costs $34,720 and $26,220 at the same time?

This is what my new sti sedan will look like if I ever get one. That huge boy racer wing has got to go.

Couple of notes: unless I'm missing something, WRX center mounted tach, like STi, is a brand new thing? Also it doesn't look like US STi gets the third brake light under the bumper - a real bummer. Both STi and WRX get bluetooth hands free standard on all trims.

It looks like they did drop gold rim option for STi

Man it's harder and harder to justify STi over WRX!

Why? You did read the part about how under the fenders the STi is a completely different car and the handling couldn't be compared between the two right?

Center tach has always been there and Subaru announced months ago that they were dropping the gold rims, probably making it easier to focus on pricing without giving "options", or something as such (just woke up, too early to analyze *garble garble*.)

Because while I planned to autocross my WRX when I bought it, I never did, because it's my only car and didn't have time. Soo for street driving WRX has pretty good handling abilities, which is the primary strength of STi over WRX, since horsepower difference is nothing epic.
Again, I'm thinking about STi, but it's harder to justify over upgraded WRX. 2011 WRX even got front brake vents with WRX metal strip - just like STi!

the only thing i don't understand is why the reviewers seem so 100% confident of the pricing for WRX and STi models. i mean they haven't been released officially yet have they?

Because the "reviewers" got their products directly from the manufacter (Subaru) and are otherwise in direct touch with Subaru's sales and marketing organizations.

I think I like the look of the WRX wing better than the STi wing....I see a bunch of trunk swapping in the future. ...I assume the 2011 trunks should trade with the 2008-9 trunks as well...

Good going Subaru in regards to the non-cosmetic changes. Give this car 60-80 more HP and it wil reclaim its position as a giant killer.

I aggree the old spread between the wrx and sti was 224/305 they should bring back that spread by giving the STI atleast 340hp or so.

The center tach started in 2004, IIRC.

Those are engine bay vents... not brake vents. There is a gap under the top of the fenders that draws air off the top of the engine bay.. it exits there. It's pretty cool, my STI's fenders would be almost as warm as the hood after a drive in the winter, even though the rest of the car was cold.

As always, the STI isn't worth the extra money unless you're planning on tracking it frequently or intend on some big HP upgrades. If you want a daily driver, the WRX is an excellent car.

Yeah I can't wait to see a 08/09 WRX on the street with the 2011 STI wing That's going to be comedy gold!

Ugh... 340+hp out of a turboed four-banger? You're pushing the limits of reliability at that point.

I have a supercharged I4 in my car that pushes out about 230+whp (about the same as an STI now?) and that's nearly the limit without doing some serious upgrades to cams, etc. While that extra oomph sounds nice on paper, I don't see it happening without some definite tech improvements over the next while (and a corresponding increase in cost).

DOT. Don't expect to have a reliable engine at those power levels.
