Default Clark Turner E-tune?

Hey, has anyone had a Clark Turner E-tune done on their car? Or better yet has anyone had an e-tune done?

I already have a Cobb AP and are at stage 1 (slowly getting there) and am seriously considering a Clark E-tune. Any experiences?

Thanks

DDS

i wouldn't bother with only "stage 1"...or even stage 2.....gains arent worth the money IMO...im speaking general E-tunes....never had experience with clark turner....

i would stick with an OTS...or else go somewhere and get the car tuned (if you have a few more parts on the car)

Ok thanks! I'll chime in a little later to see how yours went. Stage 2 for me is coming shortly but I am not too happy with Cobb's OTS stage 1 (needs to be smoother and idle is a little lumpy). I thought I would try him out with a stage 1 tune to see how that goes before stage 2 etc. Besides, I get to also save the map in my AP which is a bonus.

Thanks!

It's been said heaps but rather than an e-tune from someone not in the area (ie different gas/elevations etc) why not go to Rocket Rally and let them tune it.

most likely because of the costs associated.....

E-tuning is like the midpoint (cost & effectiveness) between an OTS tune and an actual tune....

for stage 1 or 2 OTS maps work very well....when u step beyond exhaust work it's time to get someone to actually tune the car in the car....bigger turbo + OTS map = kaboom....

thats from what i've seen, YMMV....

is he doing an amazing job because he's on the internet?

or is he doing an amazing job because the tune is amazing?

I agree..

Maybe the guy doesn't want to spend a bunch of money on a stage 1 tune. If he knows that he is eventually going stage 2 or higher in the fairly near future, the extra cost of a full tune for stage 1 probably doesnt make sense.

Someone used Clark Tune maps locally and I know he charges around $150~200 per map

Saw his stg2 07 STi race map is pushing 23psi on 93 oct, really pushing the stock turbo and I don't recommend this at all

i have ran clark's stage 2 tune before i got my vf39 put in and it is leaps and bounds better than the ots stage 2 map that cobb offers. im currently running his vf39 map for my car til i can get a dyno tune. about 5k miles and car is running smooth. i would recommend him. his customer service is top notch and he will help you out even if you arent a customer.

I have been Clarks customer since 07. He has e-tuned my 02 and my 07 Rex. I'm 100% happy with the results: ) I sold my 02 to my friend and he is at stage 2 now. Clark has e-tuned my car many, many times. Started from stage 1 all the way to stage3 or what ever you want to call a superzilla49/Meth/tial44,and build block. I just purchase a GT30 76R rotated kit and guess who is going to e-tune it? Clark of course. His maps are smooth, powerfull & have a awesome power band also his special cam maps are the s***t!
At the moment he is tuning in St. Luis with Ron from Raw performance, I think that if Ron trust Clark tuning his motors why not you?

My two cents

Cost is the factor here - don't want to drop $500 at RR right now - just want to get things smoothed out. Think I'l be sending him my $$ soon - there's definately alot more good than bad with him it seems. Thanks

Im new to tuning, but... with a built motor and all the add on's you have, do you think your getting the potential out of your build from someone who made a map off another car with possible different mods, internal engine spec, and all other little fine tweeks and adjustments your not getting to make your setup run the best for what you have by not getting it dyno tuned?

This e-tune sounds like a cheap way to get something more than stock, but your car is somethign I would want to cheap out on the tune...

Im all for going for a cheaper alternative, and it sounds like the OP might get some bang for his buck, but I cant see it being good on anything above a stage 1 maybe stage 2

Clark comes to my home town for tuning trips twice a year. For example he is coming in next month to road and dyno tune cars, I will be getting my set up after he gets here.
So what i'm going to do is get a e-tune for my set up and get it as close as I can to it's full potential using my LM-2 wideband and Cobb AP and when he comes over I will get it tuned in person...Not everyone has the luxury of living close to a great tuner like Clark so I'm so lucky to have a e-tuner like Clark with all his experience.

I failed to mention that in my earlier post.

no worries man! I was just curious, sounds like a good setup. I guess you living close to Clark is like us living close to Pat Richard and Rocket Rally

Ya but Rocket Rally does not do Cobb Protunes which is what I want - so I am able to save the map in my AP and switch out to stock etc. down the road. As far as I know they will do a custom flash straight to your ECU or a Ecutek. But you are right we do have a good tuner in RR but I honestly do not want to drop $500 right now. For $150 USD I can get Clark Turner to smooth out my stage 1 map for now and when I get a DP he will send me a stage 2 map for only $50 extra and still revise it as much I need to get it right.

Just pick whatever fits in your budget and convenience for stage 1 and 2.

If you plan to upgrade to bigger turbo, injectors, FMIC etc in future, better plan ahead , and by then you need the professional Road Tune

RR definitely does protunes as they did mine on my FXT. CAI, Bigger TMIC and DP...with a COBB. Be wary of saving money in the short run as it could cost you a lot more in the long run. Best of luck.

I am very happy with my setup, which has been e-tuned by Clark many times. For the price, and the the convenience, you can't beat it. I have heard many testimonials of people being happier with their Clark tune then their in-person pro-tunes.

I originally got an e-tune just to get my set-up running...but I was so happy with how the car was running that I just stuck with it. Once you get a map from Clark, all of the upgrades are cheaper and I believe it is also cheaper to get a tune live if he comes to your town. I've had all of my upgrades e-tuned by Clark and when he comes to the area again I will have him tweak the car in person.

My car has over 180,000 miles on the stock block. I went from stock to an evo3-16G, then meth, and typical supporting mods. I have put in almost 10,000 miles on the current setup and Clark's tunes...and not a single problem. I also find that Clark's tunes are safe...and he tunes for all aspects. I spent a few days hauling some stones around in my old Subie...over 500lbs a load. Just for kicks I kept an eye on the dynamic advance as I was driving around. Not a hint of knock.

I highly recommend you getting an e-tune from Clark. Even if you wind up deciding to get tuned in person at some point, by whoever, for 150 bucks you really can't go wrong.

I've been tuned by Clark in person. He ruined mine and one other motor that weekend. Plenty of others from that tuning session ended up getting retuned elsewhere because they weren't overly happy with the results. The next time he came into town a few months later he blew another motor.

I trust his tuning like I would a street urchin with my iPhone.

If you want an e-tune, there are several other shops to pick from. You will need a wideband O2 gauge and a laptop if e-tuning is what you want. Personally, I'd try to find a tuner within a reasonable distance and go to their shop for a tune. "Saving money" is not a reason to get an e-tune over one in person. $500 to a (relatively) local tuner is going to be a better investment than the $200 gauge + $150 tune + lackluster (in my and others I know experience) tune + $X,XXX for the cost of a motor (not saying that's what will happen...). You will have better and faster results, better customer service (you will be standing right in front of them vs email), and they can fix any small issues you might have.

When did you get the Cobb protune at RR? I contacted them a few months ago and they said that they no longer do Protunes.

I did it about 6-8 months ago. http://www.rocketrally.com/website/i...badafcc6877521

It's still on their website and listed on Cobbs website as a dealer. I
d be very surprised if they no longer did protunes. Byzantium's experience is more common than you may think from the posts so far. I don't like to bash a vendor especially when my experience with them was almost 3 years ago and more...and I used to work for RR. So I'll let you decide if you want to take the risk after reading his post.

I think there is risk with all tunes. With the more reputable tuners having much less risk. I would love to go to RR but the $$ are too much for me right now for what I want (simple Stage 1 retune) and I put Clark Turner in the reputable catagory. It's good to know that RR does do Cobb Protunes, which gives me more options down the road - I may just in fact sell my AP and use those $$ to get RR to do one of their in house reflashes. I am also thinking that for a stage 1 and 2 and slightly modded cars e-unes are great, but when you add a grocery list of mods etc. it would be best to be there in person as it would be much easier for the tuner, like RR, to troubleshoot. NASIOC is so informative and as I read on this site - it's not always the tuner's fault - you could have a POS lemon of a car or one of those parts you just picked up was defective which may = boom. Who knows. Anyhow, thanks for everyone's help!! Great learning experience as always.
