Default NOVA Crabs: where to buy or sit down and eat

Does anyone know of a great place to buy crabs in NOVA? How about a sitdown restaurant/shack ? My wife asked if we could go out w/ her family on Friday. I know some places in MD (like Cameron's) or the D.C. Waterfront where I could order some.

Bethesda Crabhouse was good a bunch of years ago. Not sure if it's as fun/good as it used to be (looks at reviews...looks like it went a little downhill).

Personally, I'd love to sit down at a place instead of hauling a bushel to a house and messing it up.

Thanks!

Sorry, my suggestion is not in NOVA. Perhaps make a trip to Annapolis?

Cantler's in Annapolis in fun. It's very out of the way and on the water. It's like eating in someone's backyard.

Yeah, unfortunately my mother-in-law works in NOVA and wouldn't be done until 6 or so. She'll be bushed, as will the rest of the family. I suppose if we go Saturday, Annapolis would rock! It'll be hot outside, but closer to where the crabs are.

Thanks so far!

Capt. Pell's in Fairfax City. I personally prefer buying them from the DC Marina and bringing them home.

I've been to the Quarterdeck in Arlington and it was pretty good. It's a straight up paper on table, bucket of crabs and dig in deal. The crabs were delicious and HOT!
Don't go if you're looking for refinement, but if you want all you can eat crabs, it's a good choice.

Thanks for all the input! I'll ask the family when and where they'd like to go.

It's a shame that we're so close to the Bay, but have so much fewer crab places than across the Potomac River.

...and then pay someone to crack them for you?

Ed: I've had pretty decent luck just getting the leg groups from Giant or H-Mart and chowing down at home... Otherwise, I don't know

The bad thing about Corona and a bunch of other bottled beers is skunking outside. Cans of Bud (I know, burn in hell) or something like that work well.

Why? Just curious.

BTW, update: looks like family is coming over Sunday. So, I'll be picking up a bushel somewhere. rice wrx said go to the Waterfront, haggle, then wait around for about 90 mins. Not diggin' that idea about driving so far and waiting around for 90 mins. I may just call someplace sort of local ahead of time and place an order ahead of time.

Guys, thanks for all the suggestions! I really would be up for a sitdown meet. How much would folks be willing to spend on a meet for beer and crabs?

We have good luck @ Blue Ridge Seafood - 15704 Lee Highway in
Gainesville.
They usually have medium, large, XL and BMF size (huge & delic!). They do a good job of seasoning. We always order them in batches of 6 so part of the dozen doesn't get cold while picking away.

For carry out - as already stated, Crosby's is best.

Have a yummy time!
