Default Is this a good deal for a DD Beater?

I am in the market for a beater that I can use for work to drive 144 miles per day. Do you think $800 (I will try and negotiate lower) is a good price for a 2000 Ford Focus with 117,xxx miles in complete working condition. No mechanical problems? I honestly dont care about the car but I was wondering if any of you guys have had prior experiance with a Focus or if you believe this is flat out a bad deal.

Thanks,
Memma

Looking in to both actually but for the time being filling up is a major pain...Do you think the car is not worth it or you think geting a beater wouldnt be worth it in general..

You should just put miles on your current econobox.

I'd be leary of a ford with that many miles on it, if it's current on all the maintenance then it shouldn't be an issue, otherwise I'd look for a honda or toyota.

If you drive that many miles a day, I'm assuming it's a lot of highway miles. I can't see a 10 year old Focus getting too much better gas mileage than a your Subaru. Set the cruise control in the WRX and you should be getting close to said Ford.

A "beater" in lieu of driving a $25K Subaru.

Wow.

I used to live about 59 miles from work. Then I moved 3 miles from work. Just in fuel savings thats about $2800 less per year. Not to mention I got 2.5 hours per day of my life back not spent in traffic.

Yeah I hear ya the only problem is with my job there is a sense of job security but the downfall is I am a contractor meaning **** changes on a yearly basis this is my 4th campus so I would hate to move closer to Trenton Just to end up back in North Jersey in a year

Get a beat up Civic that runs quite well and be done with it.

Honestly doesn't sound like you need a WRX if you're driving 144 in a commute in Jersey. You're stuck in traffic all day long anyhow. When are you going to drive it?

As someone who drives 120 miles a day in NJ traffic, I look at things exactly the opposite as you do.

If I'm going to be spending 3-4 hours a day in a car, it damn well better be something I like.

Civics here in NJ are 99% for sale with mods done to them and everyone wants 2K or more for them...I used to work from home when I bought my WRX + I love the car unfortunately my position was moved 72 miles away. I would still drive it when I get home, weekends at least until my position gets relocated yet again but closer or I find something better.
