Are these the same hardness as an OEM bearing for street use, or are they hardened race bearings? (do not want)

With most racing bearings (ACL, Cosworth, etc.) the bearings are actually softer material.

OEM bearings are harder because they are designed to last longer and because they are not being put under the heavy strain of racing conditions they can be harder because they don't take as heavy of an impact.

Racing Bearings are generally softer which makes them not last as long, but they are softer so that during heavy racing conditions it is more pliable to take more impact and strain to protect the crank.

Mahle Motorsports has done rigorous testing to ensure that the bearings will perform and as soon as they come in we will do some testing as well on our racing blocks to guarantee the performance of these bearings!

I was under the impression that race bearings were harder for decreased friction and street bearings were softer so that contamination would become embedded into the babbitt material instead of scoring the machined surfaces

The thing with OEM Bearings is that with the harder material, when you use an OEM bearing in race applications they tend to spider or crack far easier than a race bearing. since race bearings, are softer it can adjust to change far better than a hard material. for example if you look at a Drag Racing specific bearing the material is very soft so that when the torque hits dramatically the bearing can take the abuse protecting the crank and not scoring it.

Most race bearings are tri-metal made from a steel back, copper-lead and then the thin babbit material. The hard part is that bearings are generally priced very cheaply and the materials they use tend to be quite inexpensive. The real good bearings are making sure these tolerances stack up each time. I think the quality control of the bearing manufacturers make a huge difference. On paper .001 sounds like so little but when it comes to engine building this can make all the differences in the world in real life applications.

We are working with Mahle because the small improvements in their bearings, and they have extremely precise quality control with strong consistency. With the Mahle Motorsports bearings currently being put to the test in the World Rally Championships we have really high hopes for the incredible performance of these new bearings.

So for a guy like me that is going to DD his car and take it to the track only a few times a year, (mainly autocross, and a road track or 2) would we be better off to use something more OEM then this?
I ask because I will more then likely rebuild my engine at some point and while I would like more power I still want it to last as long as it can.

Thanks.

At that point, if you do plan to increase the power in your car i would upgrade the bearings. They will last a long time and if you plan on putting your car into racing situations then it would be beneficial to have a softer bearing to take the hit.
