Default pinstripes are off, now how do I get the residue off?

While I was waxing my car, my GF decided to peel the pinstripes off the sides of my car. She got them completely off, but there's still some nasty glue/residue type stuff left. I pulled the pinstripes off the trunk and it left absolutely NO residue, yet the paint underneath the stripes is a different color. I also want to take off the IMPREZA sticker and the remnants of a Jesus fish (former owner, not mine) on the lower left hand corner of the trunk.

A friend of mine tried some sticker remover to get the residue of his debadged Camry, to no avail. I heard somebody used acetone to get sticker residue off, but doesn't that hurt the paint? What have you used that actually worked and where'd you get it?

For the sticky residue, I think rubbing with your fingers works pretty well..
wait for a pretty hot day.. or keep it under the sun for a bit.. then rub off..

Subie Gal - the pinstripes themselves are gone, just the residue underneath is left. Besides, I don't have an electric drill I could use for the stripe stripper.

wrxplode - it's not sticky, it's baked on. My car is 7 years old, whatever was once glue is now sun baked onto the paint and doesn't want to come off very easily.

Maybe I'll grab some WD-40 and see if that works...

doink: My "residue" is still there Turns out that since my pinstripe is so old, and never removed or taken care of, its destroyed some of the clearcoat I tried everything, and only a detailing job or a re-clearcoating will get it fixed

I don't believe acetone is a "safety solvent" for urethane clearcoat. As a matter of fact, I'm pretty sure it's not . . .

Naptha (good ol' lighter fluid) is safe for clears, though, and is the main component of 3M's adhesive remover. Isopropyl alcohol is another safe solvent for clearcoats.
