Got a ticket on the way to class this morning. I merged onto 94 and I guess there was a state cop further back. Pulled me over and claimed that he "paced" me at 80 but never clocked me. Is that something that will hold up if I go to court or should I just pay it and do the online traffic school?

Just pay it IIRC Illinois just passed this law that allows the cop to estimate how fast you were going and have it hold up. Let me look for a link to the article so you dont think im messing with you.

Yeah if he claims he was pacing you means he is claiming he was going the same speed as you. and it will hold up unfortunately.

If I go to court is there a chance it wont go on my reccord. Also with a speeding violation, does the police man Havering show up and if not it is dropped and I just pay court fees?

In PA they have to pace you for atleast a 1/4 mile maintaining the same distance and speed for that 1/4. When I am getting paced I keep hitting my brakes and changing speed.

In this situation its probably just best to pay the ticket. If you go to court they are going to see that you are young and that you drive a sports car there is going to be no way that it doesn't go on your record. With how broke this state is you would be wasting your time in going to court and trying to get out of this ticket.

You can always try and push the court date back so he doesn't show. There's also a small chance you can get the points lowered by going to court, but in your case I wouldn't hold my breathe.

If you truly weren't speeding look on your GPS for a travel log. Having proof saying you were traveling 55~ and not 80 will hold up greatly. I think James had done that in Ohio with great results, mainly because he truly wasn't speeding...or so he says

Now if you were speeding, prepare to pay hopefully it wasn't on the 132/94 ramp because that is a construction zone.

Be smart and go to court but still plea guilty to the violation. If you have a clean driving record the judge could just put you under court supervision and / or have you take the defensive driving course plus court fees. Never just pay the fine. That ticket will stick to your record for like five years if you just send it in with a guilty plea.

Illinois does not do point system. You fail today Paul.

In my situation I was still speeding but barely 5 over instead of the 15 he accused me of... when he didn't even get a real reading on me because we came over a hill going opposite directions at the same time..... he mush have thought i was an idiot

No Tahoe... he was a real dick when I was trying to be nice. I think I will do the go to court and plead guilty scenario BC all I'm really worried about is it going on my reccord and raising my rates when I get married and am on my own insurance. I was definitely speeding Chris... I was doing 85ish but my escort never went off and he just pulled behiend me. No pacing just flipped on his lights

Since you claim that you don't have any other citations on your record then I would just show up, plea guilty, pay the fines and go on your merry way. If the judge gives you a court supervision with or without defensive driving course make sure that you drive like a grandma during the duration of your probation otherwise if you get another moving violation the new violation along with the first one will go automatically on your record.

Ask your future father-in-law about this. I am sure he will tell you the same thing I just did.
