Default 03 outback engine 2.5

Can someone tell me what engines can be swapped into an 03 outback with a 2.5, which doesn't require also swapping wiring harness or ECU ? Also does anyone know where to find such engines in the Pittsburgh area? My sister blew hers last week and found one for $1600 (80,000 mile), but I thought that sounded a little high, what's a reasonable price?
