Hey guys....I'm wondering if one of you would like to make some dough and do my 60,000 mile servicing for me? The dealership wants $749 for a 60K check and I'm not in the mood to get raped like that. If anyone wants to help me out, I'll buy the parts and just need someone to replace them for me. Your time and suby knowledge will be appreciated$$$.
You can PM me or email me at meko905@aol.com. ~Pedro

At the 60K mile check they:
-Change engine oil and filter -Multi-Point Inspection -Replace air filter -Change transmission fluid -Replace gas and oil filters -Change coolant -Replace brake fluid -Replace spark plugs(Platinum Tip) includes timing belt replacement -Fuel Injection Service All that for $749. I'm not sure if that price includes labor but regardless that seems kind of steep. If anyone wants to help me out and make some quick money, contact me. Thanks. |

Wow! Where do you go for service, Trump Subaru?
![]() If you don't get anyone, here are some other options: 1. Drive to Central NJ and save $300. 2. Do at least some things yourself. I'm far from a techie, but learned to change the engine oil, gear oil and air filter by reading the owner's manual. 3. Tell the dealer to RTFM! Some dealers have their own maintenenance recommendations. You only have to go by the warranty booklet to maintain your warranty. A fuel injection service and multi-point inspection are dealer add-ons. Check the book on the timing belt replacement too (mine is 105K). You could probably save a few hundred if the dealer goes "by the book". 4. By the parts yourself and have an independent garage do the service for you. Good luck, Dennis |

Actually I go to Smith-Cairns in Yonkers. Service has always been great but I don't want to pay as much as they're asking, especially knowing that most of that stuff I can do myself. I can change the oil and oil filter. I also already replaced the air filter with a K&N. But what I'm concerned with is spark plug replacement and cleaning my fuel injectors. If someone gave me some pointers I'd do it myself but I don't want to f*ck anything up. ![]() |

A friend of mine recently bought a Legacy GT from there. I've already warned her about dealer add-ons. My dealer charges ~$450 for the 60K (99 OB) including platinum plugs, minus the things I've already done and minus a AAA 10% discount. A loaner is even included regardless of where you bought the car (on the 15, 30 and 60K, etc. services). Dennis Last edited by bluesubie; 06-19-2002 at 02:32 PM. |

changing spark plugs is a pain, but not too difficult. definitely doable at home.

Does the service writer wear a stocking over his head, and carry a gun???
![]() We get $430.95 for the whole shootin match! by the way the t-belt is a 100,000 mile belt, and the 2000 doesn't take platinum plugs! |

I actually got the list of what is covered from the Subaru Maintenance schedule book so I don't really know what the $749 includes but it better be everything I mentioned. I'm going to end up finding someone private to do it otherwise I will never justify the cost. Thanks guys for all your comments. Do you know if they have a Chiltons Subaru book for the 2000 models yet? I checked about a year ago and the book wasn't out yet. |
