Default Bonneville Salt Flats and Speedweek 2010: 14 Days and counting

Hey RMIC people,

Speedweek 2010 at the Bonneville Salt Flats is fast approaching, 14 days and counting. I've gone the last 3 years and I'm hooked bad, Salt Fever is what they call it.

I'm taking my suby out there this year to spectate, take pictures and get cool stories. I just posted this up on MotorMavens.com a couple days ago.

http://www.motormavens.com/2010/07/a...le-salt-flats/

Here's a few pictures to of what types of cars show up. I'll start it off with a EJ25 powered Belly Tank Lakester.

This 50's modified Berkeley (British sports car) is knockin' on 300MPH

Lots of Customs and traditional hot rods come out to spectate

224MPH Galant VR4 Record Holder for Production super/turbocharged G and H engine (2.01L-3.0L and 1.5-2.0L).

SSR Mesh anyone?

Nothing says Bonneville like a fast Studebaker

Can't forget the Nugget Casino Car Show on the first 2 nights.

Anyone going?

Chris

do you think a pontiac bonneville would say bonneville more than a studebaker?

After spectating at this event, you should also go out and participate with the Salt Flats Race Association and do the 130 club in your wrx!

I have been wanting to make a trip out to speed week since I moved out here 4 years ago I think this year will be the year I actually make it. Do they charge to watch?

@steve3 Yes, they charge about $15 a day or something. Bring water, a big hat and sunblock

@WillieBill I want to do the 130Club, maybe next year. THey do that in September when USFRA sponsors the racing I'm a member of USFRA already.

@Himynameisgreg Nope, a Pontiac Bville is not what I think of when I think of the Salt Flats.

I did the 130 club a few years ago in my stage 2 wrx wagon. It was a great experience and a lot of fun. I am happy to help and answer questions if I can.

Cool. The easiest is to run at the 130 and 150 mph club track. Much cheaper and less work (less safety equipment).

What bike #(s) were you running/helping with?

So, what did your mods include? You need a driveshaft loop right? I'm sure a univeral one could be adapted. Post up pics or video if you have any.

150 is the fastest you can go in a "normal" car. Anything faster and it takes drastic change to you and your car.

medamullet gave the rules link above. 130 club, not so much needed, basically a helmet and fire extinguisher. no driveshaft loop. 150 club, need much more (cage, etc).

as for relavent mods, I was running an off-the-shelf AP cobb stage 2 map with a cobb turbo-back exhaust and an APS intake. Did just over 130 on my first run without trying too hard.

This sounds awesome! If you see a silver lowered shoe box going 130, that'll be me.

salt wrecks your car. Driving my car all year is hard enough for me. Driving it on pure salt would drive me completely crazy. Especially letting it sit on every aluminum part for 2 days until I could get it washed off.
