Post what is BG motor oil additive? 15K service manifest says they add it but i run synth

the 15k service manifest that i recieved in the mail today says so many things it's not even funny - i have no idea how i can afford this work

either who, i switched the motor oil so far to mobil 1, and the manifest mentions adding this oil additive. what should i tell the dealer? i do my own oil changes, since i do it frequently...

another thing. - the car is a lease, do i void service warranty by changing my own oil?

Who sent you this service manifest? If it was a local dealer, ignore it and follow the instructions in your service/maintenance schedule that came with the car. They are just looking for an easy way to get more money. Not that any dealer I've ever gone to has ever tried to rip me off for service

BG additives are overpriced goop in a can. Though, I will admit, it is good goop. Their fuel injection cleaner (called 44K) is thought to be the best out there.

BG products are often marketed as 'spiffs' to technicians. BG puts little ring things in the bottom of the can, the tech can turn these in for cash or prizes when he accumulates to many. So the techs and the service writers both have an interest in selling the stuff.

If they want to push this stuff on you, ask them if SoA specifically recommends it's use, and tell them you want to see it on paper. Chances are SoA has a statement that does not endorse ANY additives.

I would not add any additives to synth. And, the detergent action of synth is usually much stronger than dino, so you shouldn't need it anyway. (actually, you shouldn't need it at 15k with ANY oil, that's just silly)

BG products kick-ass, though, especially the injector cleaner. I highly recommend a can of that stuff about twice a year.

My former dealer used that as well. IIRC, it was $8 or $12 for the BG. It's not needed and you won't void your warranty by changing your own oil (I change mine now). Lots of dealers love unnecessary add-ons. I started going to Flemington because their service is excellent and their prices are reasonable. A few years ago I had my 15k service done at Somerset. I almost fell out of my chair when they told me they go "by the book". Wow, what a concept. Actually performing maintenance according to what SoA says. Also, be sure to tell the dealer any maint. you perform yourself. That way you won't be overcharged.
