Default ZOMG How do I make my car sound like the X Games carz!!11 No, we dont know what bov.

I figured I would head it off at the pass, since there is about a 200% chance it is going to be asked.

The chirping you hear isnt a bov, it the anti lag.

WE DONT KNOW WHICH BOV THOSE CARS ARE USING. In fact, its actually likely the stock valve.

The answer is, open your wallet, come up with at LEAST 50k, and buy a used rally car. Or build the motor yourself.

Its a mix of several things.

Anti-lag
--You cant have this easily. You are looking at a standalone or a certain year ECU with a hard to get your hands on ROM
-- Its also VERY hard on the car. Anti lag tends to kill turbos in VERY short order.
Sequential gearbox
-- Last time I checked, you could get a gearbox like what these guys use, for @25k used. New is right abouts 75grand.
A BOV that is not an off the shelf "you can go out and buy it" part.

EVERY single year since they put rally in it, within a week of x games, there are at least 3 threads started asking what bov they have, and how they can make their bone stock or stage 2 car sound just like the rally cars.

So I figured I would just get it out of the way this year

?

I have never heard anti lag that sounds like chirping... I have only heard the pop pop pop type

I have heard BOV's flutter that sound like the rally cars.

Are you sure the chirping it the anti lag?

i think the point was the combination of factors, not zomg BOV and/or antilag, and or sequantial gearbox=rally sound

Is it that time of the year already?

Time to brace myself for stupid then.

Although, what homologation rules are they using? GpA, GpN, WRC, or something else that is unique to US rally?

Something that obviously doesnt work. easily 1/3 of the cars broke, including EVERY SUBARU.

I do know they either have no hp limit or its 600hp. Because they kept talking about their 600hp engines. I think with 400hp, they would still be PLENTY fast enough to bring the excitement ESPN is looking for, and would actually hold up an entire 3 lap race.

rally in x games this year sucked ass at best. The course was laid out so poorly that even the top drivers were DNFing for off course. I think I saw TWO straight races. The rest were all mechanical DNF or off course DNF. It sucked.

But it wouldn't a Subaru if it didn't break down!

****, last time I heard about a Subaru engine making that much and racing for more than 10 seconds each time is a GpA WR-97 which has had the power output doubled. Makes 700HP on the 2.0 and was used to go up against Monster Tajimas Suzuki Escudo.

Maybe it's me, but I think X-Games isn't popular now like it was back then.

Every year, it never fails to see a bunch of noob popular culture (read douchenozzle) types who want to sound "cool" like the rally cars. This heads things off nicely, so thank you Dave.

Actually, for the n00bs that want to know how much the REAL competition parts actually cost...

http://www.subaruwrcspares.com/1.html

Prices are in British Pounds. All is either used or surplus stock.

One of the vendors had a few of the WRC sequential gearboxes for sale a few years ago, the cheapest one was $25,000. The most expensive was like 42k. These are the same or very close to the same trannies that are in the cars you saw poorly racing yesterday

Not after this year we won't. Not a single subaru made it to the end without breaking. Subies looked like ass. If I didnt know any better and was in the market for one of these types of cars, I would be at a for dealer looking at a fiesta.

its unlikely that any of those cars had any BOV at all. the noise you hear is compressor surge.

to the other guy - the xgames cars are not limited in power, they are limited in displacement and have restrictors for FI, just like rally america and WRC. bigger restrictor for xgames than normal, though. i dont know what a reasonable estimate of power output would be in the xgames configuration.

I thought some of the Subies that weren't factory backed ended up finishing just not winning their heat.
