The contract expires in December of 2011, but they still have to change the Motor Vechicle Act: http://www.aircare.ca/newspubs-e-new...enewsyear=2009

If the car isn't stock, do they do more than check the computer?

Any car newer than 2000 or 2001 they only check for codes. For example if you have no cats and have disabled the code for that. So if it has cats and everything they don't do an emissions test. I was just there the other day in my 2001 Protege and this was the case.

Awesome, thanks. Is it common in Vancouver to go cattless?

Maybe Hehe. Ya lots of people go cattless just to save $$ or to have less restriction.

They still do use a mirror and check if you physically have something that resembles a cat...

Stick a high flow cat in the system and don't be an ass.

It's almost as annoying as stupid loud Harleys.

I was intending on getting a fairly quiet cattless turbo-back, probably one that ended up having a resonator, which could look like a cat.

What is a better place for a cat, built in to the downpipe or the usual place in most cars after the downpipe but before the muffler?

If you are going to go with a cat, the stock location seems like the best way to go. For the 08+ they switched to putting the cats in the downpipe but on yours I think it's in the midpipe.

I don't need a cat as I drive a hybrid electric truck for work so that's my carbon offset.

AFAIK, I have 3 cats: up-pipe, downpipe and below/behind the downpipe where the cat normally is in most cars.

If you're going without a cat in your exhaust system, yes, I AM calling you an ass.

I think the Air care program is going to continue after 2011. Because mainly it's a cash cow for trans link which in turn benefit the Government. Altho it's a waste of resources and time from vehicle owners, but they said it's a benefit for everyone so there'll be safer cars on the road?

Hmmm... So why exactly does 'going without a cat' make someone an ass?

Because I've met a lot of people that are certainly not asses that run without cats on thier exhaust. And in my experience people that make statements like the one you just did actually turn out to be asses themselves.

Not trying to come off rude here but the idea was put a high flow cat and go to aircare, and dont be an ass about it, because that's what will get you noticed and penalized etc. Same out on the street.

So he was not calling you an ass, and there was no "singing."

Now at one point I did not have cats...its just not worth it. You become an ass going around the street to gain a few HP. Some guys can pull it off but they generally don't live in Vancouver and don't have neighbors, and have not been pulled over.

It is a conscious decision to gain performance by emitting some low level toxic fumes and a whole lot more noise. If this is what someone wants, then they generally are ok being asses. Who cares what people think right? lol.

Because you can make the same power by going with a high flow cat and not emit foul smells and pollutants.

Even if you don't believe in global warming, not emitting foul smells to everyone around you while driving is just being considerate.

So yes, I still say anyone who drives around without a cat is an ass. But it's just my opinion, you obviously don't care what I nor anyone else thinks, and that's fine by me.
