Default my 2.5i mod list, ideas are welcome

I got my 2.5i wagon back in June, I have a little over 2700 miles on it. I was intending on doing some work on it over the course of the summer before college starts. But money became a little tight in the house, so I thought why not change my intentions for the car or add some more things?

What I plan on doing:

tints on rear windows 15%
Yellow fog lights
rally armor mudflaps
a light bar with with another set of fog lights

I want a spoiler on it also. Any opinions on that?

I was also wanting some OEM acessories such as the dimming mirrow
sport mesh grille
and the blue interior light kit (is blue ok? since my center console and speedometer is red, but there is a blue light in the center by the shift knob)

This is where I can use some ideas from you guys and its performance, I know that suspension and exhaust are the best that can be done for my model, is there any brand I should get or is any good?

Again, constructive criticism is welcome.

i would suggest the sti spoiler and maybe a wrx rear bumper with a diffuser. thats wut im looking into right now but as for ur blue lighting by the footwell.. it looks i got that in mine as well ur able to set the type of dim lighting u want. i also got a jdm blue dome light so my car lights up blue when i open it or hit the alarm. i like the SPT exhaust for the 08 wrx wagon fits on good and i believe borla came out with 1 just for this type of car. For suspention im looking into www.ralitek.com

I actually was interested in the sti wagon spoiler but I'm stuck with where I can get one. If I install aftermarket performance parts the warranty should still be available correct?

The spoiler on the '09 hatch is the same as the one that came on the 2008 WRXs. They changed it in 2009 so that all WRXs had the same spoiler as the STI.

There is a used WRB STI spoiler on eBay for $299. Can't link from work, but it was there Sunday night. You'll have to get it painted but you will probably have to do that with any spoiler. The best option would be to find a used WRX spoiler in your car color. They are hard to come by, though, as there aren't a lot of aftermarket alternatives for WRXs to upgrade to.

I've heard the blue light kit is bright. I went with the red (which, I think, interferes less with night vision) and swapped the blue LED in the cubby for the red LED that comes in the STI cubby. You can order that from any Subaru parts dealer.

Your mod list is all cosmetic, which is totally cool, but I would suggest at least one performance mod; A rear sway bar. The 2.5i's do not have them and they make a big difference in your handling. You can probably find a used WRX one for around $100. You might need endlinks, and you will need the mouting brackets and bolts, which you can also get from any Suanru parts dealer.

Rally Innovations makes a great light bar, but it's expensive.

True, Subaru will not warranty the aftermarket part, for sure, but in order to refuse a warranty claim, they would have to prove that your aftermarket part could have caused the issue.

Your warranty is never "voided" really. You just take a risk that you give Subaru grounds to refuse a claim. That said, it would be very difficult to refuse a claim for engine work due your new sway bars. As long as you purchase parts made by reputable manufacturers and are sure they are installed properly, there shouldn't be too much to be concerned about.

Now I understand the how the warranty can be voided. I want to see the footwell illumination in person, but never had the chance to.

Another question, should I get an OEM sway bar or another aftermarket brand?

How much do you want to spend? With a bit of searching anf patience, you can find an OEM WRX bar, used, for $100 or less. Aftermarket could be much higher. I was very happy with my '09 WRX rear sway and OEM front sway combo. I have since move up to Rallitek's 22mm F/19mm R set up, with endlinks, and like it even more.

Also, sway bars are a balancing act, I believe the front on the 2.5i is 19mm, and the general strategy for AWD handling appears to be bigger front, smaller rear, so if you go to a 19mm or larger rear, you may also want to consider upgrading the front to keep it in balance. There's a lot more information on this in the "suspension" forum.

One more thing, the OEM tires aren't all that great, so even if you are unwilling to throw out a set of tires before they are worn, put a good set of tires on your list for the future. If you live where there is snow, put a set of winter wheels and snow tires on it, with a good set of summer tires for the non-snowy months.

Tires are often overlooked as a "performance mod" but they are possibly the most important handling modification you can make. You can have the best suspension in the world and it won't mean squat if you can't keep it stuck to the ground.

I'm still on OEM tires, because I have a hard time getting rid of perfectly fine half-worn tires, but I do have a winter wheel set up, and can't wait to put a set of really good summer tires on my car next year.

If you get a chance to try one, a "Blitz throttle controller" my be something you like(ask some of the locals if they have one.) Install is a snap.

Mounted with cables and box in dash.

Basically it improves the "drive by wire" throttle response. It takes that damn annoying "dip" out of the when you press the gas pedal.

These are a$$ expensive for reasons unknown. I got mine from a new co-worker that I helped move(had no clue wtf this jdm thing did, lol.)

I haven't tried one of these on an NA car yet but when I drove an 09 2.5 I could tell where it would help.

Also don't believe the "eco mode" saves gas, its bs. However it is the most comfortable mode to drive in. I use eco every time I start the car.

Hey I know your mostly looking into cosmetics so here's a few ideas...

I put 10 % tints all around my car, and painted my taillights red (on 08's they were altezza style which suck, IDK about 2010 2.5Is)

Now suspension: RalliTEK front and rear Sway Bars plus bushings, then H & R coilovers

Then I'm doing strictly performance as I can afford it: AVO intake, Borla CBE, AccessPORT or OS (depending how I feel), then maybe RalliTEK cams and finally some nice wheels (OZ superlagerra)

Once I do all that I want to get a sport mesh grill from Subaru Genuine Parts, a de-chrome back piece between the tail lights that is in my cars color, and then a Grillcraft Lower black mesh grill, and finally fog lights (that i'll tint yellow).

It's extensive but i've had time to put lots of thought into it and one day I'll be completely satisfied with my car (until I swap the engine and boost it )

No you didn't, I was open to more ideas. Thanks for the input everyone! I just never got around to replying on this thread. And if you do dechrome the rear, I would like to see how it looks. I want to but don't know how it would turn out since my car is silver.

Mine's black, but my chrome is deleted. I found someone selling an STI hatch trim piece in Black.

I don't think having a black strip would look that nice on the silver. Makes me wish I had a black car instead

Yeah, it was convenient to have the STIs come in the same color as my OBS. Do the STIs come in Silver? I dont' think they do, otherwiase you could order it already painted. That said, you can always get one repainted. And keep your eye out for people going "back to stock" or otherwise selling one in the classified on the board too.

Buy a can of paint on paintscratch.com and paint it yourself! Fairly easy removal and the end result, if you take your time, looks great!

People have had mixed luck painting over the chrome. The paint doesn't adhere well to the chrome, take your time to really prep and prime it well.

Oh yeah, shifter bushings for all the manual guys. Awesome mod for dirt cheap and stupid easy to do. The rallitek ones have been great so far just be careful with the lube they send you it gets everywhere, its stringy and will fly all over the place.

PS
LOCTITE is your friend, I learned the hard way that even if the car is off the lift/jacks w/e. Go back and either double nut or loctite that lil bastard keeper nut.

I would recommend a short shifter, but more importantly stiffer polyurethane bushings. You'll realize just how imprecise and "jello-y" the stock set-up is.

Footwell Illumination Kit is super easy to install, not at all intrusive when drivings at night and doesn't look to "ricer."

The Rally Innovations light bar looks particularly mean with the GrimmSpeed license plate relocation kit.

Rally Armor Urethane Mud Flaps and a Thule Roof Basket also look great.

JPM Coachworks makes many Alcantara parts. The steering wheel is particularly nice, but I would spend the extra cash and get the Prova D Steering wheel. I really like the center line and D shape.

If you update to the WRX/STI wing for the hatch, you can get a wing riser kit from Perrin Performance.
