Ok well first off i wanna start by saying good afternoon everyone and here is my question: My car is a 1.8l so if i used the phase 1 2.5l block will it work (keeping it n/a of course) and if so will it be street driveable ? I know its probably a stupid question but im still getting used to subaru's and thats the only reason why i asked.

Yeah it will definitely work! You can swap in just about any newer subaru motor and it will bolt up no problem! You'll likely have to do some custom wiring and other misc things but fitment and reliability are as good as you make it!

If I understand correctly, you're a good candidate for a high compression Frankenstein motor using your 1.8 heads on the 2.5 block. Search for the big-ass thread about it and see if it's right for you.Jacob |

I've done this.....not with the EJ18 heads, but with an EJ25D longblock mated with an old EJ20G manifold running on the stock EJ18 ECU.
Your compression ratio will be pretty high, but drivable on pump gas. Search for the "hi-compression frankenstein" thread and you'll get a ton of great info to answer any questions you might have. Have fun! Jay |

The experts have chimed in.......years ago.
In the hi-compression frankenstein thread...... Cliffnotes: EJ18 heads on a EJ25 bottom end will give you about 11.5:1 CR. Still runnable on pump gas, premium maybe....but nothing wild. Power level? not sure but likely in the mid 140's. EJ22 heads on a EJ25 bottom end will give you about 11.1:1 CR. Power level has been posted around 150-155. I may be off on the numbers, it's been years since I read the thread. Jay |
