Default My WRX buying experience

Hey guys, I'm new here... I had to get a few posts under my belt before I could make a new post, so I did a couple of inane replies to some posts prior, haha

Got me a new 2010 WRX and I'm pretty happy about. Just wanted to share a few good/bad experiences before buying.

So initially I was looking for a used '08 or '09 model. Found an '09 one at Metrotown Mitsubishi and went to take a look. Saw it had 49,000 kms and was automatically turned off, as it was priced higher than other '09 models with lower mileage. Took it for a test drive anyway... BAD idea... the sales team was super aggressive and annoying after I tested it. They had 3 different guys talk to me about the friggin same stuff, trying to get me to buy that car immediately. After looking back, I was really suspicious about the car and I suspect that it was actually an '08 model. It had cloth seats and a sunroof. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you can't get a sunroof without leather seats on an '09 model. If it's an '08 model, that makes the 49,000 kms make more sense too.

Anyway, so I continued my search... found a new 2010 model on clearance sale at Wolfe Subaru. Made an appointment to test drive. Got there and the car's battery was dead... On a new battery, it would probably take 3-4 months + for the battery to die right? Anyway, that's good news for me because it should mean the dealership is more motivated to sell it.

Sat down and started to negotiate. They offered $500 for my trade in (99 Audi A4). They refused to move on that.. fine. I asked about price, and the sales guy was like, "umm, yeah.. I can probably do $1000 - $1500 off", and we went back and forth and had some numbers down on the offer sheet. So we settled on a good number and he took the sheet to the sales manager. 5 minutes later, he came back and our previous numbers were all X'ed out in red and a bunch of new numbers and calculations were written on the side with a new total price on the bottom. I was thinking "sweet, now we're getting somewhere". Upon closer inspection, the new price written down was the EXACT same price as the starting point. I literally said to the sales guy, "WTF?". I said he had to do something, ANYTHING to show he wants my business or I'm walking. He goes back to the sales manager again, and after a few minutes the sales manager comes to talk to me personally. He basically said the clearance price he set is the best price, so "if you don't like, then you gotta go". He was an arrogant bastard, so I didn't hesitate to walk.

Went to Richmond Subaru, told them about the clearance sale at Wolfe and asked them to beat that price. I gave them a target price, after one visit to the sales manager there, I got back a price that was only a bit higher than my target, but still lower than Wolfe. It was a done deal, and the staff at Richmond Subaru was great... much better and more positive attitude.

Anyway, sorry for the lengthy story, just a bit of venting hehe... I'm a happy new owner of a 2010 white WRX and just wanted to say "hi" to everyone. Looking forward to making it out to the BBQ

I got the Pearl White 5-door
No sunroof or leather though.

Lovin it! It's got such great utility value. Had the seats folded down and transported cargo that I normally wouldn't have been able to fit in a sedan. It's pretty big back there.

Around $30k roughly.. plus Subaru Canada had a national promotion for $1000 of free accessories, but Richmond Subaru took that off the price of the car instead.

No, he was some young guy, blonde crew cut hair... muscular looking. Looks really "army" type of guy.

Congrats on the new car.

We all have different experiences with each dealer, one day this place is awesome and the next they blow. Salesman at the dealers seem to rotate, I never see the same guy twice so this will have an affect on how they conduct their business.

I have purchased cars through Wolfe Subaru and I always dealt with the same guy, I go back to purchase my '08 STI and they acted like they could give a ****e, this was my third purchase.

I have since purchased two cars and my parents 1 car from the Subie dealer in Kelowna and Anthony(owners kid) actually seems to care. Everytime we traded cars in and they offered excellent trade-in pricing on vehicles they have never seen. It is out of the way but we make a weekend trip out of the deal.

Maybe overall it cost me more than dealing local but I'am willing to pay for the ease of suffering and all the BS the goes on at other places.

Welcome to the VIC. I'm kind of jealous that you have a white WRX. That was my first choice but when I laid eyes on my DGM Limited, it was a done deal. I agree the 5 door has crazy space when you fold the seats down. It does everything- it can haul a family around and haul ass.

Yeah, I know that to be too true, sadly enough... but $500 is still pretty low. Kelly Black Book has it listed as $1100 - $3100 and market value is about $5000-$7000.

I sold it privately for $3500 because it had some problems and wanted a quick sale.

Honestly, I wouldn't have felt insulted if he just outright said he can't take my car for trade-in instead of him offering me $500 saying my car is worthless.

Congrats from one newbie to another, coolbass. I also just picked up a 2010 5-door WRX three weeks back. Since then I've noticed more of the new STI's on the road than the plain WRXs (relatively speaking of course, nothing plain about our cars).

Friend of mine swore off audi after his similarly aged a4 experience... nothing but grief from both the car and the company. We swore off audi after our 1978 was the most crap car we've owned (and this was in the 80s, so it wasn't exactly old)

Thanks for the info on your experience - as someone who is ideally moving up to a new wrx in the next year or so, I find it all very useful!

Ahh Vaungh, in my dealings with him when I bought my car 3 years ago he was hit or miss. One day we was nice and the other I wanted to smack him.

They don't sponsor anything? Two of my Dad's cousins work for Pan Pacific and I think I'm going to have to have a talk with them as they are both managers of somesort (I think)

I really like the STi too... a friend of a friend just bought a modded up '09 STi that has 450hp+ for $34k. That was right after I bought my "plain" WRX, haha... I was a bit jealous.

nice!

I had trouble with wolfe subaru as well, picked the car apart in terms of details, high miles, odd marks etc, brand new winter tires in march. I was like wtf? I need a new set of tires. Anyway ended up getting a US import car that was mint for about 4000 less
