Default 2nd non functional cat...

06 2.5i has a non functional cat? Curious to go about removing it if it doesn't throw any codes...

Saw this video:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=u2KzvXU7sdE

Sounds relatively good but I think it may sound better with my stromung. It kinda of gives it that unequal header sound without actually having them lol.

I hate rev videos. Your car doesn't rev when you drive down the road. He didn't really do anything to let you know what it's actually gonna sound like when he's driving it. And I've never heard anything about a non functional cat, but then again I don't have a 2.5i. If there's no O2 behind it, I don't see why removing it would produce a CEL.

The second cats in subarus are functional, they're just not monitored by an O2. Every NA subaru I've seen in OE condition have from 96+ has had two cats with the O2 sensor being between the first and second cat.

If there is no O2 sensor behind it, you should be OK to remove it without getting a CEL.

That is, of course, if you hate the environment...

Is it something hard to remove? Does a shop have to do it I don't think they will do it

Any small exhaust shop will swap it for a new piece of catless exhaust tubing you, I would think. Should be around $50 or so, maybe a bit more. They should tell you up front how much it'll be.

It will get louder. If you like the way it sounds now, I don't think I'd bother but that's just me.

I ran a single high flow cat and a Flowmaster 44 for a while. It wasn't bad until I started tuning it and then it got very loud. I eventually had a resonator put in between them after I scared the crap out of a kid in a parking garage and my GF started referring to it as "invasively loud". LOL

I wouldn't count on an exhaust shop cutting out your cat for you. Most places it is illegal to modify or remove any catalytic converters. Some will, though.

Yea I found a sheisty place that would do it, I'm worried about throwing a code or it being to loud but I just have an axleback with stock 2.25 piping so it should be ok?
