Default SOLD: 2005 PSM STi - 71k, Low Price!

Please read this entire post if you're interested in the car!

I have a 2005 PSM STi I would like to sell. It currently has 71k miles and is located in the Lowell area.
VIN: JF1GD706X5L502347

Mods (I have all of the stock parts except the wheels):
  • 3" Bellmouth catless downpipe (name brand but the brand escapes me)
  • AEM short ram intake
  • 1 step colder NGK plugs
  • 255 Walbro fuel pump, brand new
  • Conservative tune by Bren of Bren Tuning
  • ASA wheels
  • Eclipse single DIN head unit
  • 10" Kicker woofer and generic amp
  • Aftermarket speakers, I don't know the brand as the P.O. installed them but they sound very good
  • Black carpet from a WRX
  • All weather Subaru mats (it did not come with the original STi mats)
The Good:
The previous owner had the 60k service done early around 50k k (I have the receipt for everything that was done). The downpipe hadn't been off the car until I installed the 3 incher around 60k. The clutch holds well and the 60k service included new front pads and rotors. The compression is good across all cylinders and there are no vacuum or intake manifold leaks. The spark plugs only have 5-6k on them. The CarFax is clean, no accidents etc.

The Not-as-good:
It looks like the P.O. had an incident with a curb or parking lot bump stop. The front bumper is scrapped up on the bottom (underneath the license plate) and the last time I was under the car for an oil change I saw a couple of zip ties between the lower and upper part of the bumper on the passenger side. He also wasn't big on exterior care so there are tiny dings and light scratches around the car, nothing that wouldn't buff out. That being said it doesn't look bad from a few feet away.

The rear passenger-side strut has the infamous STi strut clunk despite being replaced as part of the aforementioned 60k service and being repacked approximately 10k miles ago. It's more of an annoyance than anything but I will include replacement rear struts that have approximately 10k on them (according to the person I bought them from).

Finally, the ECU throws a P0303 (cylinder 3 misfire) code from time to time in warm weather. There is no audible misfire. The code does not come back for at least a few weeks, some times months after resetting it. Alex and Matt from DSG looked at this issue on two separate occasions and reluctantly admitted they couldn't find the cause either mechanically or with the tune. They did a compression test, pressure tested the intake manifold and fixed a small vacuum leak but the issue still does crop up infrequently. If you want more info we could call them to discuss it as I'm sure they will remember the problem that got away . When Bren was doing the tune he said he has seen Subarus live their entire lives with this exact problem without issue.

If you aren't comfortable signing a bill of sale that states you awknowledge these issues then this car probably isn't for you. The car pulls strongly and is in good shape otherwise but in the interest of not being sacked with a Lemon Law claim and not being a bad person in general I want to fully disclose any and all problems with the car.

Book value for a STi of this vintage in "good" condition is around $17,250.

Considering the good and not so good items I'm asking $15,500. At this point I'm pretty firm on that price as I do owe money on the car. The loan is with a local CU so it should be a fairly painless sale.

Didn't you like just buy this thing? < 6 months ago?

Anyway, good luck with sale. Wish I could afford getting another STi...the car plus knowing I would have to mod everything all over again doesn't fit my budget.

Yeah I did... what can I say, I have car ADD. That and the misfire problem was driving me up the wall.

It's a moot point now as I traded it last night so it's no longer for sale. Thanks for looking everyone!
