Ahh! A very good question. The answer is blue painters tape. I've seen the 06/07 sti tail lights pull chrome... its very annoying... fortunately I can fix it if it does pull chrome. Its mainly a problem with cars that sit out in the sun. It makes the chrome weak imo. The key is to sand with an ultra fine grit sand paper in the area around the chrome. Also, another thing is the way in which you remove the tape. You always pull from the inside out and go VERY slowly.

In the case of these hatch tails... no chrome was peeled.

much better than chrome oem taillights. pretty sure the aftermarket is going to produce taillights like those soon and the ebay vendors will sell them all over the place.
