yes, the red reflector can be removed... however, if you look closely at the reflector in the pics, you'll see a dark square. When you remove the red reflector you have an open square in your tail light... not a big deal to some but its up to you

i was going to do a write up but i couldn't get enough interest. Maybe if someone locally offers their tails up i can do one

Question

Any word on creating a step-by-step guide to this mod? I'm seriously considering doing this on my '10 2.5i.

I'd really like to see a write up or at least closer pics of the cutting process/location and what tools (bits and speed) were used with the dremel. I've been thinking about doing this on my obp '10 as I've blacked out the grill and headlights to match and would be really trick to carry the same look around to the rear.

+1 for a comprehensive write up

I have a 2011 SWP and would love to get the black housing look! It would match my tint nicely I think!

These look nice but I still prefer the red overlays or red spraypaint look. Well done.

looks good, but i would prefer to see the LED holes in red with maybe a nightshade type of spray. So that it maintains the reflective and chrome feature. And definitely change out the turn signal light to and LED so that the bulb doesn't give off that amber reflection. Then to top it off a nice smoked tint to the entire lens. DONE!

The black used was a high gloss so it was "shiny" and matched the headlights perfectly.

You could definitely do a black chrome and have it look amazing (think evo 9 tails)

Switching to an LED would be very easy

Oh this is definitely happening...i've been contemplating with going back to red spray paint or keeping my VHT...this blows both ideas out of the water. And I know my way around a dremel...shouldn't be that bad. Thanks for being one of the first ballsy people to try it...i'll back you up when i finish mine.

Gave this a shot a while back.

Cutting it open was incredibly hard.
I didnt mask off the chrome around where the LED's are like the OP. I just sprayed the whole thing.

Anyone interested in doing this mod for me? I am too nervous to cut it open and ruin my lights. I was thinking about trying it with a hot knife on the actual seal. Anyway, PM me if interested.

Satin, I'll snap a few pics of the cut line for the tails. That's all you need to know, everything else is just like doing it to 06 07 tails
