Default EJ25 DOHC swap into my 96 Impreza Brighton

Ok so I have been reading like crazy and my head is about to explode lol. I have a 96 Impreza Brighton with a 1.8L in it. I came across a EJ25 out of a 99 Legacy Outback with low miles. I have never done a swap before so I would greatly appreciate some help. If I just bolt the motor up and connect everything, will I be needing a new wiring harness? I have a 2.2L to swap in if this doesn't work but I really want to do the 2.5 swap. I have a few different 1.8 and 2.2 intake manifolds laying around if I need to swap them on. I read a few threads on rs25.com that said I could swap the throttle body from my 2.2 over to it to make it work also but I am still unsure. Can anyone give me some good advice? Thanks a million!

the DOHC EJ20 intake is not the same as your 1.8 or the 2.2.

you would have to swap the whole wiring harness. it could be done. but not as easy as pulling one engine and placeing the new one in...

I'm not an expert on such things, but I don't believe suberdave is correct. Contact Jay Storm (username "Storm") - I'm almost positive he is running (or has in the past) an EJ25D in an older Impreza that originally had an EJ18. As I recall, he even used the EJ18 ECU to run it.

im not saying it cant be done. but i do know that the intakes are different. i have both in my garage right now. the Phase I DOHC EJ25D EJ20G Ej20K... all have inline intake bolts. the EJ18 and EJ22 and EJ22t all have stagered intake bolts.
