Default Preserving CV joint boots?

having had the same boot split twice on an old car, I wanted to preserve the other 3, and thought about the Sube's, especially the one that sits above the exhaust pipe. Read that Sube is using plastic boots on the Outer joints, so didn't want to put something that preserves rubber on it. I guess since only the outers were mentioned, the inners may be rubber. Any ideas on trying to preserve them? Since the one on my old car went twice, and not sure how long they were split, and I can't get a split boot that fits, I have it wrapped with Saran wrap, since it may go at any time, and no sense in replacing the boot, and doing the same work to replace the axle.
