Nice to see you updated

That said, 50K+, same clutch, same tranny, still stage one (with a much better RCE/Bilstein suspension and some 335 star specs) no problems at all. While I am mostly reasonable I often get to the 4-9 over the posted speed limit quite quickly (numbers recommended by my brother in law a traffic cop around here). But never racing others, I just like to check my but dyno.

Well, i'm making 370whp/390lb-ft now with an ACT heavy duty clutch. Been changing the gear oil every two months with Redline 75w90NS with a quart of lightweight shockproof. Last few times i've been getting the normal shavings and some worryingly large chunks of metal. Pretty sure it's not brass so i'm guessing the gears are on their way out.

22,xxx miles and clutch was starting to slip in 3rd and 4th, running with 334wtq (mustang dyno) since 6k miles. I had burned it once or twice so it was expected. I just replaced with an ACT HDSS clutch so now I'll really see how the tranny is built. I previously had the Group N transmission mount, full KB shifter bushings and short shifter. With the new clutch I added a KB pitch stop. Everything feels goooood now.

I finally feel confident I have a clutch that can tolerate a launch, so I'll probably do a few of them. Hopefully these newer 5 spds really are stronger. FYI, pitch stopper added some noise with accel/decel but overall I think it sounds raw and wicked.

First of all, there is a reason this post says 08-10 WRX transmissions. So for all of you '99rs or 05 WRX guys, you have a different transmisison so your "contribution" to this thread is pointless. With that being said, here is my story:

10 WRX, 350whp/400torque with e85, tuned on Cobb's mustang dyno. I currently have 30k miles on the car, about 10k of which have been stg 2 and another 10k on e85. I also have around 10 passes on the 1/4 mile dragstrip, with a pretty conservative launch (slipping the clutch at 4k or so resulting in 60ft times between 2 and 2.2 seconds, which is pretty slow). So far the only issue I have had is some slight clutch slipping if i punch it in 5th gear while under 3k RPMs. Other than that, it still flies through 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th and runs a 12.6 1/4 mile at the track.

Are the 2011's much better? will the 2008-2011 gear box fit in the 06 tranny?

had a main shaft bearing go on me driving home from work one day at around 21,000 miles. claimed to be a bad part from the factory. repairs covered under warranty by a tech who was supposedly "the best in the state"

fast forward 7000 miles and 4th gear now grinds occasionally. i'm nursing it the best i can as a tranny rebuild now will surely be out of pocket.

cars not beat on, but driven like its meant to be. some people get lucky, some people don't. seems like i'm the latter

08. Put in ACT HDSS because the stock slipped at 10k miles.
HDSS throwout bearing crapped out at 35k miles.
Replaced with stage 4 competition clutch sprung 1620 set.
pressure plate is rubbing against a rib in the transmission.
replaced again.
rubbing again.
tearing it apart AGAIN.

Saw a 4 door 2011 WRX transmission blow apart at Evo vs STi at Raceway Park this past Sunday. From the numbers it was running, it was probably a S2 car.

So yeah, they do still break.

There was a handfull of 2010's that had an issue with the circlip from the center diff breaking and getting ground up. The factory has fixed the problem with a newer part number and and better designed clip.

10 WRX @ 42k miles
stage 1 since 28k miles
a few 4k launches, some hard shifting, not really babied or abused... I did learn stick on this car so the first 3k were pretty traumatic :-)

no issues...

08 wrx 72k. 10k stage II and synth trans fluid. Clutch died last week, re-surfaced oem flywheel and exedy stage 1 clutch installed today. Wow the engage point is very different, but not that much stiffer pedal feel. I can't wait to see how she feels after the break in.

Can these flywheels be resurfaced? I had an issue with an older track car (porsche 944S2). there were no "spec's" to be found on minimum thicknesses, so I had it turned down about 0.010", just to get the ridges out. Installed my new clutch and it would slip in almost everygear about 3k rpm. forced me to upgrade to a Spec aluminum flywheel (nice piece) as it was about 1/2 price of the original replacement. Just curious....and a possible word of caution

I'll be buying one of the newer 5sp for a 914 conversion. Are there any around FWD only so that I do not have to do the conversion kit to make 2wd only?
