Still rocking the stock clutch(knock on wood)
Car has been perrin stage 1 since it was broke in at roughly 6k miles
then was switched to TP Stage 2 at about 40k
Clutch feels as good as the day I bought it and I dont baby the car, but I also dont abuse it either...... I just dive it like it should be drove,
Kudos

I let a friend drive it last weekend and he said there was a "pop" in the clutch. The clutch now has a strange feel to it. It is difficult to get into gear, but once it does, it shifts, well, not great but ok. I am guessing it is the TOB.

What is the "fork" I have heard people talking about in their transmission?

My tuner recently replaced an ACT HD in an 09 WRX. The owner had some problems. He put in a South Bend Stage 3 clutch. The customer, who is running E85 and putting down about 340 torque, says that he as 20K miles on it and no probs.

My transmission is fine, just the clutch issue.

The 5 speed clutch fork has been known to fail, and it locks you out of gear and will cause all types of issues.

Here's what they look like when they've been reinforced.

Having said that, i have an ACT HD and have had zero issues over the 15k miles i've put on it (370/390). And it seems like it's luck-of-the-draw with the clutch fork failures, but i will say that the heavier clutches seem to eat them up faster. Your main resolution will be buy a new clutch for and have the back welded up by someone who knows what they're doing and where to reinforce it.

2011 Impreza 2.5i 5 M/T 12k on it.. all stock except for a Megan Racing midpipe and muffler delete and rims. Running strong, no problems, no slips, though it does have the humming/whining on decel in second gear but it has done that since the day I drove it off the lot so its just common as others have said.. Though I am wanting to 6 speed swap it if anyone can direct me to a place to help with that..?

5dr 2010 purchased in late 2009. I have 31000 miles and aside from killing that pesky deer in AZ the car purrs like a kitten. I get the clutch shudder on cold mornings (this isn't news) but other than that it's great.

MODS:

K&N drop in
SPT cat back exhaust
DMrally tuned early next month (fingers crossed)

Broken. Mines a legacy trans but its all the same gears.

0-60k probably 300-350whp I didn't own it then, but from what I know after owning and working on the car now it had a fmic, bigger turbo, injectors, map sensor, broken ringland.
60-80k stg2 stock clutch 250whp 300wtq airboy
80-105k htagreen acthd clutch 370 whp 330 wtq airboy (400whp and 370wtq on the shops dyno dynamics)

Broke third gear while cruising on the highway. Clutch was ruined as well after 20k.

This sounds exactly like what just happened to me on my stock 07 transmission and it was the shifter fork it took a few months before it completely broke. It's only a $20 part from subaru but you do have to pull the transmission basically the same work as replacing the clutch

09' 2.5i hatch. Throw-out bearing "exploded" at 70k. Clutch itself was fine but had already ordered an Exedy Stage One clutch kit so had that put in.

You must be talking about my 09 WRX. I got tuned on E85 2 years ago with just 5k miles. I now have 38k miles with no issues with the transmission except for the clutch. The stock one lasted about 10k miles after switching over to E85. Then I had an ACT HD clutch installed and that lasted about 20k miles. I now have a Southbend stage 3 endurance clutch which feels really solid. BTW I'm making 350whp/410tq on a low reading dyno.

08 wrx 52,000 miles. 10k stage 2. Trans running the same as when I bought the car. Blouch 20G xt-r in near future with other supporting mods. We will see how the stock trans holds up.

08 wrx, I’ve owned it for 1 year, so I’m not sure about previous mods. I’ve done my fair share of (10 or so) launches using the quick slip method before going stage 1 in January (65k). And prior to that in November the car did just fine for an HPDE weekend at NCCAR (63k). In February my probably not so perfect launches chewed up the clutch lining. After pulling everything apart, I saw it was the original clutch and replaced it with an exedy stage 1 (70k). Went stage 2 early April and I only smell the clutch a little after a couple launches in a row (4 launches so far). So long story short…no issues with the trans (75k).

BTW, I poured in Lubrication Engineers gear oil after the track weekend if anyone can pm me any experience with this stuff I’d like to hear it.

08' WRX 57k miles on it. Daily driver. Not beat on short of some snow donuts. Transmission growls and has been growling for the last 12k or so. Been to two different subaru dealerships countless times to have the noise remedied only to come out with additional damage/noises and the original problem not fixed. Noise started while stock, I have a CBE and poly shifter bushings on right now (have other mods but those are only the relevant ones)

Edit to say that I am fully stock, with the factory short shifter.
Update: Now with 37k miles on the clock. Recently replaced tranny fluid with Extra S, added TiC Holy Shift kit and Group N tranny mounts. Shifting is much more smooth, and no more unpleasantness going into third gear!

Clutch feels like jello compared to every other car I drive. Totally different from 10k miles ago. It doesn't feel like it grabs from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd.

No issues besides the usual shifing into 1st from reverse and vice versa. Something I hadn't noticed on my bugeye is having to double clutch when downshifting from 5th into 4th. Other than that, no major problems but thinking about getting the "cocktail" to see if it improves anything.

2010 WRX fully bolted tuned on E85 @ 390whp/398wtq
30,000mls

Popped mine about a month ago at a langley speedway. I was in the final race for "top dog" and did a massive launch. 1st was there 2nd was there...I went to shift into third and my stick did a circle. Put it in 4th and nothing. So as of right now all i have is 1st,2nd and 5th. I drove home (40mls) like that. It didnt make a sound at all. PPG straight cut dog box is planned in oct. Now note that i was not nice to this trans. I drove it hard. Syncros started to grind a few months earlier. I race it regularly. Over all these trans are solid but like everything else, if you abuse it they will break.

The car had the 20G XTR (and 400WHP+) for over 10k (daily driven) miles. Lost 3rd gear at the track when I applied power. I was not shifting at the time. I was not shifting hard at the track (road course) that day, but I have shifted it hard (flat foot shifting) many times in the past.

it seems as if you do not drive your car correctly nor take care of it the proper way. i have 90 k miles on mine with cobb stage 2 sf. no problems yet. working on convincing my father to get staged for his 2011 he is just worried about the trans. the parts and tune we will be putting on will roughly give him 330 hp but he is worried about trans. i told him to grow a pair and just do it lol. if trans goes i will rebuild an sti trans to make it handle more power.

Be more concerned about an engine failure than a transmission failure.
