Angry SORRY, but 2.5RS tranny's SUck!

My 98 RS has about 96k miles and I just blew my 2nd tranny this morning, for the second time it's all because of the that damn second gear. My first tranny I treated like crap but the second one never went to the extreme and it still went bye bye. I love Subaru's and everything about them(except the tranny)but that tranny on the RS is weak, no questions asked.

I can understand your frustration, but how do the other guys that have a turbo do it?

I have an MY98 and I drive it hard from time to time, and no signs of weakness in my 2nd gear(yet??)

At least it's under warranty. Make sure you get as much replaced as possible, you don't have much warranty left.

96k miles and a warranty? Do you know something I don't know?

I wish I had a warranty, I bought a used one with 15,000 miles on it and it only had a warranty for 12k ad I already have 25k on my second one. I hoping it turns out to be a bad synchro so I could fix it cause buying another tranny is going to be hard because I just spent my $ on exhaust, chip, and a couple other accessories which havn't even come in yet. It doesn't get more frustrating than this when it comes to your car, last week my wheel fell off and I thought after that I wouldn't have any problems for a little bit, yea with my luck that just might happen.

Sorry to hear that but I've often heard stories of rough shifts into second gear but the only time I've heard of a transmission going is in a situation like yours where you have modified the car, especially when you add a turbo it adds a lot more stress on the car. That's why I'm not into serious mods whether it's a chip or turbo. Of course the exhaust makes the most sense because it increases performance, mileage and only makes the car run better. Good luck to you with the tranny though.

Probably a dumb question, but what's a broken trans like? Is your car totally not drivable now? Maybe you should get an after market trans.

First it started off by making a rattiling noise in second, then it got stuck in third and a loud bang and no matter where the shifter was 1st 3rd 4th dont matter it was stuck in 3rd, which means you have no way of movin forward, the car is just stuck and wont go. But I bet you my reverse is still fine, everytime I heard of a tranny going reverse almost always ends up being fine, not like it matters if you can't go forward.

Whoa, so your car is undrivable? How many miles did your second tranny last?
