Default Can you "overdose" on salt if you gargle salt water?

I made a salt water gargle for my sore throat last night, but like an idiot, I just dumped a bunch of sea salt in a glass and filled it with water. Stirring it didn't dissolve all of the salt. I gargled with it and spit it out, ever since then I've exacerbated my bronchitis symptoms and I'm afraid I might have ****ed my body chemistry up.

This could just be paranoia from the one Avelox I took. If a doctor ever prescribes it to you kick him in the balls. It's ****ing my world up right now.

From a nurse of 30 years: No you definitely can't from gargling. To screw up your balance you need to drink over a gallon / gallons of it.

Gargling with salt water is great, it kills any infections in your throat. If I feel like I'm getting sick I do that along with vitamin C + hot tea+ hot showers. I haven't gotten really sick in years.

Then it's the ****ing pill that's freaking me out. I didn't drink any of the gargle, but in the state of mind I'm in, I'm hyper-overanalyzing everything because frankly, I feel kind of like I'm going to die at any moment.

Could also be the near 36 hours of sleeplessness.

Gargling salt water does NOT kill infection. It kills bacteria and can help prevent them.
You haven't gotten sick because Darwin hasn't killed off all the morAns yet.

The salt did not do anything, especially since all you did was gargle it.

You are probably suffering from dehydration, a lot of that cold medicine and all of that stuff dehydrates you a lot. Drink enough water till your urine is clear. Drink some gatorade as well so you can replenish yourself, as drinking to much straight water can be bad for you if you flush your system out to much.

I remember getting bronchitis once before and it was no big deal. Now I have it and I get an antibiotic of last resort and a narcotic cough syrup.

****ing bananas.

I'd rather gargle an oral antiseptic than salt.

But you're just paranoid, and are getting sicker.

I gargled with Listerine last night a few hours after the salt gargle and almost instantly puked in the toilet.

I've had cold sweats since last night. That's kind of annoying too.

I've seen it happen several times, but fine don't listen to me

But seriously, I am not a Doctor or nurse or anything. But I am just going off experience. So take advice as you wish, but in actuality maybe you should consult a real doctor.

If you treat a cold, it lasts seven days.

If you do nothing at all, it lasts a week.
