Thumbs up TRACK TESTED: Federal 595RS-R

Heres all the data that I acquired over the weekend at Auto Club Speedway with it's 14*degree NASCAR banking through Turn#1 and #2 running the Federal 595RS-R street tire in a 255/40/17 in all four corners. The UTQG rating of the tire is a 140AA/A... The tire temps are pretty funky most likely due to using a hand held IR reader instead of a prob.

My car is a 2006 Evo making 370hp on 91octane at 26psi. It weighs a whopping 3433lbs w/out the driver. I'm also running about 3*degrees up front and 1.8*degrees in the rear...

Surprisingly the tires held up great. I never felt the tires greasing out during an entire 25min session... I would enter T1 at 140-147mph and maintain 130-135mph through the entire banking, almost breaking the 2G barrier with the tires at that...! The durometer also showed that the tires were actually softer than what we started with when I checked at the end of the day...!

Braking with the 595RS-R's was very impressive with the ST-43 pads. Scrubbing off the 135mph T2 exit speed coming into T3 at 40mph was pretty confident inspiring.

Tire wear is surprisingly minimal. I dont have pics of the tires as of yet but will shortly...

flame on....

and here are some available R-comps...

WHERE...THE...HELL...DID...YOU...BUY...THEM? PM me. Are you sponsored, or employed by them, or what? ****! I'm on two forums looking for Evo's or RSr's, and no one has em. If you have a Federal employee in reach, nut kick him please, for me.

Btw, very nice review. Look at the width, Uncle SCotty weren't kidding!

It doesn't appear that Federal Tires has set-up shop here in North America. Thus this is why I'm finding bits-and-pieces of finding them through tuner-shops only and not say TireRack, Mavis Tire Company, etc.

yeah their currently on back-order but their next shipment is due next month... I'm not fully sponsored by them but I do have an inside contact and have been pressuring them that the 595RS-R is in high demand...

I'll stay persistent and Im sure if you do the same Federal will get the hint...

Great, a review of a tire that you can't find to buy. Like to see how they compare to the new Kook RS-3 with is supposed to be the new king of the ST tires.

their main distributor is Tire Dealers Warehouse... if your local shop has an account with TDW they can get you Federals...

Excellent review! I wonder what the proper size for an STI would be given that they run so wide. I normally run 245/40/17.

Any idea on price? I might give these a try once my RE-01R's wear out.

So they have none instock?

265/35/18's for only 655 for the set, that is a great deal IMO.

I'm on a set of Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec tires and they will make it through the Fall, but that's it.

Then I come across this post and see these Federal 595RS-R street tires and figure that a new set of these next year would be nice. Maybe next year they will be more readily available? Not asking, just speaking out loud.

Uncle Scotty recommended these tires months ago in a random thread I came across.

I'm hopefully looking to get some soon.

Would you say they are as good as, or better than the RE-11's or Star Specs for autocross?

My guess is as good or better, with the bonus of being quiet (according to Scotty).
