Default My 1.8 to 2.2 Swap

SWAP TIME

my 1.8 went out and I am going to wait on the 3.3 swap in favor of my MR2 build,

Can I do the swap with just the engine itself, I don't need the 2.2 wire harness or the ECU do I?

95 2 Door GM8 Automatic Transmission

EJ22 is a direct drop in motor for you, just swap your intake manifold over to the new engine and you're good. Don't be surprised to see a knock sensor on the block, and no wire to plug it into. The EJ18 doesn't have a knock sensor.

Lots of small things are different. IAC, some sensors, wiring. It's just easier to swap the whole manifold over in one shot than deal with all the little differences.

ok, there is a nut on the transmission, on the drivers side, its between the transmission and the CV Joint, we need to get it off to pull the engine from the transmission, this is a very difficult nut to get to, does ANYONE have tips on this?

You need a swivel. If you don't have one, pull the axle pin and slide the axle out of the way.

yes if you have a phase 2 2.2 they would be different, which really sucks for you.

Ok we were able to get everything off.... Cept for the motor mounts, ipulled off the nut on the drivers side but I stripped the passenger side.....

Is there any way to unbt the mount from the engine and leave the mount on the crossmember? I keep looking for a way to get that other bolt

Otherwise is there anyone who has some good advice on getting that nut off?

Becides cutting the mount cause I currently don't have the tools for this

And what difficulties are there in putting this phase 2 in my 95?

Hey, check out rs25(dot)com... It is a more "old school" friendly site with tons of good info on 93-01 imprezas.

Interesting that your car is a GM8... I thought GM8 = 2 door with an ej20g... My car is a '97 Brighton witch is a 2 door 1.8l, but my code is GM2... trip out lol.

for the motor mount nut take a 13mm 12 point socket and hammer it on to the nut. Hammer it very hard for a long time, like 5 minutes, and that will work. As far as phase 2 a lot of wiring and sensors are different, im not totally sure but there is a lot more to the swap. Just do some searching its been done before.
