Default What is this, and can I rotate it?

I have tucked a couple wires that ran on top of the intake manifold to run under the torque box for a cleaner look. All of the wires reach, but I had to rotate the sensor circled in the pictures 90* towards the passenger side (originally the plug was facing towards the front of the car).

My questions are, first, what is this sensor? It resembles a thermostat with the spring underneath, but I know it's not. Second, is it okay to rotate it as I have? I haven't started the car yet, and wanted to check before I did.

First of all, you should fill out your info so we know what car you have. Second of all, I have no idea Trying to be more helpful to those who would know.

Looks to be an EGR valve.

Okay, after some researching, I agree. That's definitely what it is. I assume there is no harm in rotating it then?

I tried starting my car, and it runs fine. No CEL, no noticeable difference in performance. I'm calling it good.

Any issues since you rotated the top to the EGR?

It is the EGR valve

It will be quite a pain if you can rotate it ( if the square bolt pattern is actually "square" ) due to the exhaust is pumped into it from the bottom via a steel tube.

You can either leave it unplugged and then plug it back in for inspection-emissions. Or, totally pull it off with the header tube and make a block off plate for the intake manifold and a steel ( i think its 3/8 npt ) plug for the exhaust header, or cap the upper tube fitting with the correct threaded plug......the lower header option is way easier.

Doing any of the above options will be an automatic fail of emissions unless you dont have any in your state.....witch we would know if you fill out your profile!! You also may have some wondering idle upon cold start-up, like a TGV deleted turbo Suby gets without a tune. It is not an issue and will go away after the motor is warmed up.
