Default Hot starter issue

My sisters 95' Legacy will start fine when its cold. But when it gets hot and you turn it off, then try to start it right away it doesn't start. But if you let it sit for about 20 minutes it starts. This has happened a few times within the last month.

I've checked the grounding and power cables and there isn't any corrosion. I hooked up a meter to the start and its getting plenty of power under load so its not a battery issue.

I was thinking the starter is just going bad but i really don't know.

Thanks!

After doing some more reading its sounding like a bad relay. Looking at the cover though i have no idea what relay it is.

There is a small wire going to the starter solenoid. Check that wire for 12 volts when you have the trouble going on and with the key in the START position. The power should turn on the solenoid. If that is ok then there may be a problem with the the contacts inside the solenoid and they need to be replaced. It is also a good idea to clean the battery connections when having this kind of trouble.

Thanks for the reply.

I'll check that next time it happens and the battery terminals are clean.

Battery terminals can 'look good' but still cause starting problems due to a thin layer of corrosion between the post and the clamp so that is why I suggest cleaning them even if they look ok.
