Default How to clean Matte finish??

i am about to book my car in to get vinyl wrapped, in a matte finish.

I was all for it, until someone told me matte finishes are really hard to keep clean, especially as i am looking at a light colour.

Also, i am not really one for spending hours cleaning my cars, usually water and a bit of shampoo are as far as i go.

So what is the process of keeping a matte finish looking good?

The results here will probably decide if i go matte or gloss!

Thanks

The matte isn't the problem, the fact it's vinyl is. you'll need clean it by hand NEVER PRESSURE WASH. Warm bucket of soapy water and a soft rag, about the best way to wash it as it gets.

Yeah, i would never go near it with a pressure washer.

Looks like the regular bucket of water will be my best bet!

One of the biggest things in maintaining a matte finish AND a vinyl wrapped finish is being very careful with your washing methods.

This means using a soap that is clean rinsing and not getting anything in the way of oil or grease on the finish. You must use really meticulous care when washing and drying because swirling this film(compared to a glossy clearfilm for example). Wash and wax and anything with a gloss agent in it has the potential to make the film uneven.

The second part to this is making sure you keep it clean from etching from bird bombs, bug carcass and because trying to polish these can actually make them uneven and shiny not to mention the polishing oils can distort.

As far as waxes and sealants most people carefully may be able to use a clear sealant like OptiSeal from optimum but anything with a petroleum solvent would not be good for it. Some companies make a vinyl specific protectant but its important for you, considering some vinyl reacts differently than others, to test your products on a separate piece

Another important part because these films can transpire is to make sure before your car is wrapped that you wash it very well and clay/decontaminate it well to ensure a perfect surface before it is wrapped. This is especially important if the car will be wrapped for a long time as any contamination can potentially damage the finish not to mention any metallic fallout can begin to create iron blooms that will only get worse sitting under the film.

Cliffs Notes:
Test your products for protection first
Clean rinsing gentle soap with a quality wash media to ensure no swirling or scratching
Keep anything oily or greasy away
Ensure a clean contaminate free surface before wrapping

Try to use a good clean rinsing shampoo. A lot of people like gold class but I always found it left streaks and a film. Clean rinsing is key to keep that even finish. Definitely use the 2 bucket method and some soft wash media as mentioned scratches/swirls etc.. you really want to avoid

You bet! Matte can be a bit of a pain to maintain but at least its really straight forward -wash carefully -> rinse -> dry carefully, DONE!

I had my car matte vinyl wrapped for about a year and I always used Johnsons & Johnsons baby shampoo to wash it (by hand of course) Always came out looking brand new and never had any fading/dulling issues

Look into Harley Davidson Denim Paint Cleaner. It is meant to clean but not leave any gloss finish. It works wonders on Mat and denim paints.

First, never use any family soaps. These soaps were developed to remove oil and dust. These can remove off your vehicle's wax security. Use a quality car clean hair shampoo created for cleaning vehicles. Second, use a huge pail (at least 5 gallons) so that dust contaminants drain to the end and the clean suds and water.
