Good to hear.

I used axles from the 90's in my race conversion, and had to remove a bit of material in order to get the new inner race on far enough to get the snap ring on. 10 mins w/ a dremel.

Thank you Dave for saving us 100s of dollars!

How much are these for a pair? I've got a setup with 2004 wrx rear axles.

Word.

Plus, I figured I'd respect the OP's right to change his price, if ever anything changes.

BTW, almost 16k miles on mine so far!

It is not advertising if the OP does not put the price, or make actual advertisements

Already been covered but I had to see for myself. I figured I had 50/50 chance from the beginning, lol.

07 WRX Wagon, they don't fit. Diameter is good, spline count, no go. My 07 has a higher spline count.

Is there any reason why I cannot swap 02-04 Wagon axles into 07 hubs?

I have to wonder how the strength compares though. I really have no idea, so I gotta ask...

Does anyone know if the outboard CV joints on the Spec B axles are the same as STI CVs, or WRX CVs, or are they unique? And of course what I'm really wondering is, how do they all stack up in terms of strength?

Or what about the axle shafts themselves? How do Spec B shafts compare to WRX or STI shafts?

I have a couple of R160 axles that I'm tempted to upgrade this way so I can use them as spares for my 6MT setup. But on the other hand I'm also wondering how much strength I'd be giving up (if any?), as compared to the Spec B axles I'm running now, or STI axles with the outboard ends swapped out to mate to my 5x100 hubs (the opposite of this thread, basically).

If anyone knows what's up, I'd love to hear about it.

Thanks!

I'll be racing mine at the Olympus rally in a month so... If you can wait that long you should get a pretty definitive answer

But really these are just as strong as a normal r160 wrx spec axle with 6 balls in the outboard joint. I seem to remember reading the specB had a 6 ball outer too. You should pull yours out and get a true count.

Personally, I wanted a halfway decent LSD in the rear, but I didn't want to have to run Brembos.

Yes, I realize a person could use the FHI rear 2 pots and group n "gravel rotors," but either way, that's added expense. Stock brake pads and rotors are WAY cheaper than Brembo stuff. In addition, you (generally) can't run smaller than a 17" wheel with Brembos, which = FAIL for those who rally. I know I have no desire to shell out the cash for 17" snow tires, either; my 16" blizzaks have plenty of life left.

Brembos also add weight, which is stupid if a person doesn't need/want the braking capabilities of the Brembos.

Lastly, I'm not concerned about the axles breaking. I don't drive hard enough to break them, at least not any time soon.

It's my DD; I want to keep maintenance costs low, keep it reliable, but have some fun with it too. Its all about compromises, and for some people, hybrid axles fit the bill.
Cool solution! could of used that last year but I'm pretty sure brembo's are lighter than 02-05 wrx calipers.

Which year of wrx axles did everyone use that worked. Which didnt work? I have an 07 wrx and need to know if I have to purchase other wrx axles or if mine will work.

Haha, thanks. And yeah, calipers might be... Rotors, fcuk no. The rotors are where Brembos gain weight compared to WRX brakes. Not to mention, its rotational weight, aka: more drivetrain loss. In my case, that weight is unjustified.
