Ahem..

If you have an 04 Forester you should be okay with your axles. Any other year and good luck finding 02-04 WRX SEDAN axles. Wagon axles may work, but they are shorter and Foresters have a wider rear track than WRX sedans so I would not risk it.

04-08 Forester XT rear axles are identical to 02-07 WRX sedan rear axles.

So my 04 FXT outers with any 04-07 STI inners/bars will work okay?

Thanks,
Jason

I think so. When I was looking for WRX axles I was also looking for 04 FXT axles - I just knew they would be harder to find. I can't remember if they switched the spline count on the inner CV joint in late 04 or beginning of 05. You can check opposedforces to get an idea.

Check with SuberDave, but there may be a difference from the 04 STI axles to the 05-07. I can't remember. If I remember correctly, when I got mine he had parts that could deal with either STI axle, just tell him which one you need. It was just the WRX axle that was limited to 02-04 or some older models.

04 (and JDM V7-V8) STi inner joints are 6 ball races. 05+ are 8 ball races. i know the 08+ STi shafts are different. but the inner joint is the same. i bought an 11 STI rear shaft, and the inner joint was the same as any other 05+.

Hey mate,

Have sent you an email regarding these.

I got it wrong in my email though, I have 06 WRX outers with 02 STi inners but don't know the spline count because they are on my car..

Any tips or tricks to get the OEM races off after you take off the snap ring?

Thanks,
Jason

If you're referring to the inner joint they should come straight off (up) if you have the axle vertically. The inner race should just slide off after circlip removal.

I put zip ties around the bosses to keep the bearings from sliding off during degreasing.

Any race that will allow an outside Sti axle with a wrx inside that still maintains the R160? I need the opposite of the R160/R180 hybrid. Because I wan 5x114, bigger bearings, sti coilovers without changing the rest of everything.

I do but one of them is missing its baffle plate (part #23233GA091, see this thread: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2495985) You can reuse the baffle plate from the wrx outer joints though. Let me know if you're interested.

Well I have 04 axles but the inner cups are 8 ball and the spline count is 32. So they must be late 04 but it is very odd because my front axles are female. they all came from the same 04sti but as we know the 04 is a bastard child of parts.

If you have outers please PM me as I don't want to clutter the thread.

slightly off topic but, I've been doing a bunch of research and wanted to make sure I had my information right. If I already own an 04 STi (r180) I would still need custom axels, massaging of the gas tank, and to figure out the rear diff mounts right?

OR since my diff is already larger than the r160 would there not be as much of an issue?

So any word on the reverse hybrid? 5x114 hubs with a R160? I have a 06 WRX so theres no R180 that I can use until I get a 6spd.

Hey I was wondering if you still had a set of the inner race for the r180 swap? I am very interested in buying a set. I am almost done with my 05' 6 speed STI swap into my 06 Saabaru but I am keeping my stock hubs and wheels so I was looking into buying legacy spec b rear axles until I saw your thread. Please email or pm me and let me know if you do or don't have any left.

Has anyone used these races on a 2006 wrx using the stock rear axles? What was the spline count on the wrx shaft?

I tried to leave feedback but couldn't get it to work so...Dave sent me the races overnight, I installed them on Thursday and went to the track Sat and Sunday, they performed flawlessly. Save yourself some money and convert your axles so you can use your R180 diff. The races are great quality and I would not hesitate to purchase them again! Thanks Dave!!!!
