Default [email protected]’s CWP ’15 STi Journal

Hey guys, my name is Mike Adams and I am the parts & build specialist for all the Subarus here at TopSpeed Motorsports and I am waiting on the delivery of my brand new Subaru, a 2015 WRX STi in Crystal White Pearl! I just want to take a second and reintroduce myself & TSM to the community as well as the all of the new 2015+ WRX & STi owners out there. Since we do have a lot of first time Subaru owners in the ‘15+ group, I wanted to quickly touch on the rich Subaru heritage that really grew TopSpeed in to what it is today.

Based in Alpharetta, GA, TopSpeed Motorsports is an automotive performance company that is world renowned for providing aftermarket performance parts, expert installation, and professionally calibrated ECU’s. Everything we sell we have raced and track tested to insure maximum quality and performance to the individual. TSM as a company focuses exclusively on enhancing the driving experience. From our expert sales staff, to professional ECU tuning, to championship winning fabricators and mechanics, we have what it takes to do the job right the first time. Whether you need suspension setup, parts installation, trackside consulting or tuning, we have it all here under one roof.

Not that trophies and records are the end all be all of gauging quality but they certainly don’t hurt .
Below is a list of what TSM has accomplished during our decade of providing service to the performance aftermarket:

Ok, I know what you’re thinking… get to the STi already!! So here are the details on what I’ve ordered & plan to do:

Additional Options:
  • STi Short Shifter
  • Auto-Dimming Mirror w/ Compass
  • All-Weather Floor Mats
  • Rear bumper Applique
Also, I would like to thank January Brooks @ Heuberger Motors in Colorado Springs, Colorado. They have done an amazing job at providing me updates and have made this process incredibly smooth.

Being that this is a brand new chassis, our goal is to find and explore the differences from the GR and where/how they can be improved in the quest for higher performance; this also includes outlining the specific differences in the engine with respect to the ECU & tuning, along with any other mechanical differences. Also, TSM is a very goal oriented company in terms of upgrades and how they impact the overall performance of the car; so it is our intention to do each upgrade with a specific achievement in mind rather than simply throwing parts at it.

The Plan / Initial Parts List:

- 18” wheels that are lighter than the stockers and can use the stock tires. Haven’t quite decided just yet.
- A simple suspension package upgrade that improves handling but doesn’t break the bank (initially anyways haha).
- KartBoy Short Shifter - always loved the feel of these things.
- Stage 2 Power Package - Including a Cobb AP and a ProTune by our world renowned tuner, Doug Wilks.

Thanks guys!

Really looking forward to see what we can do with this chassis. It's got almost 700 miles on it now and keeps getting better and better

Found the time to finally wash the car yesterday:

Also, wound up being able to get the windows tinted last Thursday and it really adds to the car.

Well, it's been quite sometime since I've updated anything simply because there really hasn't been anything to update haha. The car is now @ 5,000 miles and is still 100% stock! I can't believe it's gone so long without getting any mods esepcially since I work here, but being busy at the shop with customer cars means those come first

I will be heading to Roebling Road Raceway near Savannah this weekend for the cars first track day and I am super excited! Looks like the first mods she's gonna get are brake pads and fluid . Since I'll be on street tires and the car is otherwise stock, I'm going to try out these Girodisc Street/Strip (SS) pads on the car to see how they do. Along with the pads, Motul RBF600 will be going in the car as well; and since it's time for an oil change, another round of Motul 8100 5w40 will go in.

^right?!?! Use those cans as chairs, fixtures, or for gas haha!

Love the SWP, looks really clean on the new 15s! Those girodisc SS pads are very nice! I liked them more than my Ferodo 2500s and Hawk HP plus's. Great initial bite, little to no fade even after several laps in 80+ degrees, and squeaked a lot less in traffic than the Ferodo's. Looks like a fun time, enjoy!!

lol ya, we have so many here that we've started using them as furniture haha.

Ya, that's why I wanted those pads. Once I move up to a wider, stickier tire, then I'll make the move to something a little more complex like a Race Technologies compound but I think for now these will be great for my purposes.

Wow, it's been a long time since I've posted an update! As I'm most of you can imagine, we've been a bit slammed at the shop here because it's our busy season.

So here goes the update on the car... I had the car up on the lift some time ago to install a down pipe, do new colder plugs, and check the compression; we did the compression check and not the rest so I'm sure you can guess what we discovered ha! Unfortunately, one of the cylinders was down to 90psi so it seems that I'd been subject to the infamous piston ring land failure.

The original intention with this car was to improve on the great platform that Subaru had already put together so it was never my plan to make crazy power or anything and gear the build more towards the 400whp on 93 / mid 400s on E85 sort of power range, so that's what I'm doing now... just happened a lot sooner than I thought it would haha.

Here are the upgrades going in to the car:

Engine/Power:

TSM SS1 Short Block
OEM Gasket Kit
OEM Head Bolts
OEM Timing Belt
OEM Timing Belt Tensioner
Killer B Motorsport Oil Pick Up Tube
NGK one step colder plugs
Group N Engine Mounts & Pitch Stop
TSM turbo upgrade
Grimmspeed EBCS
Grimmspeed Up Pipe
HKS Stainless EL Header
Invidia Catless DP
Perrin 2.4" Turbo Inlet Tube
AEM Cold Air Intake
IAG Billet TGV Deletes
IAG 3mm Phenolic Spacers
IAG Air Oil Separator - Competition
TSM Ethanol Content Sensor & Fuel Pressure Regulator Kit (more on this later)
TSM 1000cc Injectors
Walbro 485 Fuel Pump w/ 12v wiring mod
Cobb V3 AP

Drivetrain/Suspension/Brakes:

Competition Clutch Full Size Twin Disc
Beatrush Transmission Mount
Kartboy Shifter Bushings
Whiteline Rear Diff Bushings
Racecomp Engineering Yellow Springs
Motorsport Tech 20mm Bolt On Spacers (street only)
Girodisc SS Brake Pads
Motul RBF600 Fluid

Currently, the engine is out and torn down & I am just waiting for the heads to come back form the machine shop for reassembly. Once it goes on the dyno I will have some more info as far as power goes. Until then, here are some pictures:

Sorry for the lack of updates... car is running and I have about 1500 miles on the new engine and turbo setup. Currently it's on E85 and makes 400 whp / 410 wtq @ 22psi, which I would consider pretty awesome power considering I still have the stock catback and tmic on the car lol.

I still have a few more little details to work out on the car and install a FMIC & catback then turn it up a little more. Also still need to wire in the wide band, ethanol content gauge and add oil temp and pressure.

I've got to say, for the power it's making the car drives so awesome; this is my daily driver that I put 70+ miles on every day. The clutch we put in this is a new Competition Clutch full size twin disk - it drives so well and has taken the beating of launches without even batting an eye; the best part is the pedal pressure is exactly like stock.

At the same time we did the engine build, I also installed a set of the Racecomp Engineering Yellow Springs, 20mm spacers from Motorsport-Tech, a knock off front lip, Whiteline Rear Diff Bushings, & Kart Boy Shifter Bushings

Now that I have some miles on the car, I'm just trying to pick the right weekend to head to the drag strip and see what she does. More details to come on that.

How safe are the Motorsport Tech 20mm Bolt On Spacers ? Also when you say street use only does that mean your not going to use them on the drag strip and track ? I want to buy some spacers but I'm real hesitant to drive at high speeds on the freeway with spacers...

Thanks man! I won't lol - I think the wing really completes the look of the car. Let me know if there's ever anything else I can help you with though!

I trust them for the street just fine, I just am a little wary of using them at the road coarse (or any spacer more than about 10-15mm); I'll likely take them off for the drag strip too but, honestly, I think they would hold up fine there.

Call and speak with Motorsport Tech if you have any questions. Their stuff has always been awesome and they actually individually serialize the spacers and carry a pretty hefty blanket insurance policy on them so, like I said, I trust them.
