Default Anyone sold an STi on here lately?

Seems like we have a few available in the forums that have been sitting around for quite some time...

Trying to decide whether or not I'm just going to keep my car as it is payed off but I LOVE the new GTI...The interior's fit and finish is in a class of it's own along with that upgraded system.

I drive alot now for work so I was looking for something a little better on gas with full load of amenities...

If STi's aren't moving I sadly might trade it in but I would be taking a huge hit as I've replaced a bunch of parts in the past 6 months (well 5zigen has...lol) so I'm trying to talk myself out of getting rid of it as I truly do love the car, just not the interior..haha

I sat in the 2011 gti fully loaded last week and damn the interior is very very nice. Too bad it only has 205 hp but it does have ok torque at 1500 rpm. Why not look at the new 2011 sti hatch?

I have had an 04 wrx, 07 sti and now the 09 sti hatch and the interior is miles ahead of my 04, way more refined, quite inside, I changed all the speakers and a new head unit and it sounds amazing.

Also when I was at clarkdale vw they said no discounts on the gti as they are in high demand and I said really and walked out. Give me 265 hp/tq and I may be sold to but i agree they look sharp with those cookie cutter wheels!

not sure on the GTI but I know my brother commutes alot in an 07 Rabbit 5 speed and it's a super nice car but he gets terrible mileage in the city.

if your after mileage I wouldn't consider the GTI over an STI. I would bet that no matter what car you look at you'll be disappointed with the mileage unless its a civic or yaris or H-Whatever.

i believe there was a local (canadian car) 06 STi with 67k km traded in for around $22k.

Josh, GLWS, you have just done detailing not long ago too! I guess life changes and some time when you have to move on you gotta take the hit

you should probably consider a forester XT / Legacy GT, they will be a better mobile office :P

I went to Subie dealership and sat in 2011 STi...Doesn't even compare to the VW fit and finish...That is what I'm after at this point with good gas mileage too. Amazing stock stereo system and Navi too.

The STi and WRX are obviously a way better "driver's car"....The STi blows my mind all the time when I do some spirited driving...Go Kart on steroids is what I label it.
I have it on Clist now and not 1 hit on it...Must be a tough sell for dealer's too.

Neways if I do trade it in I will be parting out to make some money back on the garbage trade-in offer they give me...

With the new laws coming out, I can hear the death rattles from the local performance industry. "Driver's car" could now be labeled as "jailbait".

gti=21/31 mpg

sti=17/23 mpg

Not a huge difference if you do not hit the highway a ton....there are too many 04-07 sti's on craigslist you are better trading it in at the dealer. Again they will not discount the gti so all you have to bargin is your trade in. Heck there is a 6 month wait for a tdi now and a 3 month wait the the gti if you want a specific color/options.

I drove an automatic 2010 corolla this week for 2 days when my sti was being worked on. Crazy gas milage...but wow that was painful....i never realized how much i missed my sti and how lucky i was to drive one. Borrow a corolla and it will change your mind about selling your car!

Seriously, you need radar absorbing vinyl, dark out the headlights, hide your front plate or do the JDM trick and have a hinge on it, anything to avoid being clocked from the front, and look out for rolling cop cars

Or you could try to outrun the radio

hahaha, nice!
Really though, $1500 for a laser jammer/detector combo is starting to look like a bargain now.

Been pulled over for this, but not ticketed. Happened in Vancouver surprisingly, where they don't care about this stuff as much.

Hinge License plate holder is my favourite Home Depot Racing Development mod.

EDIT: Radar absorbing Vinyl? Link???!!

Seriously. If I never hit the track at all. I would by the GTI over an STI anyday period!

The only thing the STI has over the GTI is power and handling. The GTI is no slouch either. Put a GIAC chip in it and it's good to go.

The fit and finish is amazing. While the 08 STI is better in that department is still no where near The GTIs. Heck a civic SI has a way better stereo and interior ours.

We had a 2007 Mk5. It had it's share of problems and I cannot recommend it. However the Mk6 seems to be a great buy. Agreed on all points regarding the interior. It is probably the best interior in its class.

I don't get this interior complaint/argument.
Have any of you ever been in a Focus? What about a cavalier? Have your golden asses ever sat in a Dodge work truck, or better yet a Chevy cube van?

I drove the latter all day yesterday, and my backside is numb. Now those are hideous interiors.

Well to be fair if you sit in a MK5/MK6 Golf you will wonder what everyone else is doing.

I would say its on par with the higher end vehicles.

At the time we picked up the MK5 brand new, it was about $42,000 out the door with BBS and Nav. My STI was still market value around $45,000.

Between the two, aside from the OBVIOUS, the MK5 was a good buy.

This is a very valid point to consider... if you plan on keep a VW past the 3 year mark be pepared to buck up for the maintence cost. Gotta pay to play. That's a reason I got rid of Audi S4. The maintence and repair bill were just getting retarded after the warranty was done.

The MK5 was the first car we HAD to modify to make it reliable. Funny enough I was considering an S4 but read a lot of horror stories after the 3 year mark haha.

In the first two years without tune, we had cam follower failure. This was due to both factory tune and really cheap cam follower. We got fed up and bought an aftermarket one, and got the car tuned.

The reliability of the car went up the more we modified, however we were still in the shop once a month for electrical issues (ie. auto level HID would get stuck, DSG would go into manual mode with no input). The real problem with the car is that everything was controlled electronically, and therefore solving it yourself usually set off some warning that you could not reset.

The interior was perfect though...no doubt.

Maybe we got a lemon? I am confident though these issues are addressed in MK6, as if you read the changes, almost all the culprits have been caught

Swap the GTi interior into the STi and call it a day.

Can't be harder than this now, can it?
