Default Buying a car from out of state..

I'm going to be buying a car from Virginia. It's kind of a project car, but it is drivable. I would just need to install a TBE (found one for $150 in the area where I'm purchasing the car) and do a regular tune up before I drove it back.

I was thinking about just having it shipped but all the shipping companies I've checked have quoted me over $1000. Does anyone on here have any hook ups on shipping, or even getting a Uhaul or something that I could drive back?

Uhaul driven that far will cost you just as much with fuel, hotel and food and time.
I have done my share of hotshotting and that kind of trip isnt fun.

In all honesty I would think heavely towards the shipping quotes.
They pick up the car and bring it to you, they are liable for it.
You drive it yourself and what happens if it breaksdown somewhere along the way.
I personally would never commit to across country road trip in a car I pick up on sight and couldnt vouch 100% on its reliabilty.

Good luck

find the shipping company's hub nearest to the car you are getting. then find their hub nearest you. I have shipped five subies from out of state this way. If you get the seller to get the car to the company's hub and then you pick it up at their hub near you, (most all of em have a hub in slc), then the shipping quote will drop a ton. I actually shipped a suby from virginia this way for 700 bucks they quoted me 21 days to arrive and it got here in four. good luck
