Default Coilovers with hub swap question?

K so I already asked medamullet this morning at CnC, but just thought I'd ask anyway. Mainly looking for WANTSTI to answer cause he has done it already. So if I did a hub swap and the went bought coilovers would I buy coilovers specific to those hubs or to the car itself still? This would be on a 1998 forester, and I want to do a hub swap to 5x114.3 from the 5x100s due to the rims I want to run. So what are your thoughts on this?

You would need 05-07 sti coilovers if you put 05-07 sti hubs on. The fronts are different then 04 sti's and wrx, the rear are the same.

On the rear you can just get new hubs that are 5x114.3 If they are the same as wrx and sti hubs. I'm not sure on a forester.

I would try and get a 05 rear hub anyways cause pressing in new hubs and bearings is expensive. but if you do that you will need rear brembos im pretty sure.

+1 ^ bore diameter and fitment of sti axles in your tranny wont work.

What wheels are you planning on running is causing all this effort, I am curious thanks.

are your axle stubs male or female? the sti has male axles so you will need to either get stub adapters to turn your female into males or you will have to run sti axles. I did the swap a few months ago because i wanted to have 5x114 and finally have rear brembo's without out having to get the special rotors and adapters but after looking into it for a while, it was just easier to just swap in the full 6-speed trans and sti drive line. there were too many questions about what parts will works, axles, abs sensors, e-brake so i figured to just do it all so i wouldn't have to worry.

if you're worried about hubs on track why not just get some aftermarket ones rather than going through this huge hassle? for the money you're going to spend to get 5x114 hubs you could replace your 5x100 more than few times.

so you guys are saying that sti axels wont work with that tranny or rear end? would sti hubs work with my stock axels? could i just get the rims redrilled? so have double both bolt patterens? or does that majorly weaken the rim? ( i know there was a thread on this not too long ago)

I'm not sure but i think the spine count on the sti hubs is different than the forester axles so you might need to use the sti axles and if you do you will need to make sure that they will fit your diffs. I think the forester used axle stubs so it has female axles with a stub that stays in the diffs, i know you can buy the stubs to turn female axles into male so you can use them with a 6-speed trans and keep the 5x100 hubs but I'm not sure if they make a female axles that has the same spine count as a sti hub. I'm sure there are a lot of posts in the trans section that could help you or in the suspension section. Info gets really messy with axles, Subaru made a lot of changes to trying so match up different hubs to axles to diffs is hard. Axles, axle stubs, seals and cir clips changed a lot between the years. I looked for a while when i was doing mine but the info was confusing and i got a lot of different answers so since i already had everything i needed to do the full trans swap i just decided not to sell it and do the full swap. You might want to look into the sxv hubs, i heard they could be used and you might not have to change axles but again info is a bit iffy and it might require other work, brakes suspension, abs are the usual issues.

info overload! so bottem line if i want a for sure work do trans, diffs, axels, and hubs from the same vehical. wow might just find different rims now. the thing is there arent too many rims out there in that big in a 5x100 bolt pattern. o really want to run something atleast 10" wide.
