Default No beer and no TV make steve go something, something.....

dirt bikes, tractors, a DH bike trail spread over 80 acres, and no TV...

I thought I could do it, but after a week I'm losing my mind. We moved to the new place, and all is good, except for first thing in the AM when I want to watch the news (and car shows on Spike), and in the PM when it's nice to tune in to some crap show while I doze off to sleep.

Shaw refuses to bring cable to my house as the run is too long.
Telus doesn't offer TV in the area yet.

So it appears that satellite is the way to go.
Does anyone have any recommendations or experience with satellite TV?

I'm looking at a number of systems like the Telus, Shaw, and Bell, and they all seem to offer the same thing, albeit at different prices.

Any insight or ideas?

OTA HD not enough channels for you? Global, CBC, CTV, CityTV. No specialty channels, but you can get your prime time shows on Global for the most part. That should temporarily satisfy you until you figure something out.

Steve, having lived in the country most of my life, satellite was the only option. It still is, even now that I live in the city. I've used both Star Choice (Shaw now I understand) and Bell. Both are decent, but I prefer the channel groupings on Bell, and Bell has much better customer service. The program guide on Bell is a bit better as well, the Star Choice ipg goes backwards. If you switch to satellite, you'll find the guide so much better than all the digital cable companies.

I was going to say the opposite. All of the remote SAR stations I have worked at have had bell satellite, and while it worked well, the menu's were always the biggest frustration when compared to shaw digital at home. I have heard good things about the telus tv service though.

I need to look into this, as it would be good to have these channels. The specialty stuff is good, but I don't miss it too much yet. It helps that you can get most of the good TV specials on dvd.

That's big, because I lost a lot of respect for the local cableco. They basically tossed away a 10 yr customer, which doesn't make a lot of sense. They didn't even want to try to run the cable. They simply quoted me $10g for the cable run, which is insane. No breaks, no freebies, no negotiations.

It would be nice to have some good customer service again.

Telus tv works pretty well. They're still about a year away from offering it in my area though. If I could get a bunch of OTA channels, I could probably hold off until telus TV is offered. I used their system in Whistler and once I got used to it, I liked it.

I caught 5 mice in the basement last night. Talk about a change from Morgan Creek..... to the farm.

Mostly just epic Simpsons quotations. I have a beer store close, and some cold Warsteiner in the fridge.

Thanks for the offer, but texting pics of our asses to Alex's Blackberry doesn't sound like a fun way to pass the time. Maybe in the winter?

I was going to have a summer "camping" meet here but there was too much going on. This is the kid's first day of school, and two days ago we were still living out of boxes. Talk about pushing the boundaries of time.

I'm almost to the point where I'm selling my RCE tarmacs for some DMS50's for the Subie.

I laugh because I know you would totally be down, and probably make it a killer man-pad.
Plus I'd have another car buddy close. Do you have a plasma cutter? That would sweeten the deal.
