Default Third brake light wires.

Can anyone tell which wire leading to the third brake light in the wrx wing is the positive and which on is the ground? On my 04 wrx if I open my trunk, along the right side are two wires going up into the wing for the third brake light. One is white, one is white with a green stripe. Am I correct in assuming the one with the green is the ground?

I can't speak for your car but green = ground is true only for house wiring. And for house wiring that is done correctly.

Here is why I asking which is the ground wire: I purchased a device that will make your third brake light blink when you hit the brakes to better get the attention of drivers behind you and alert them that you're stopping. Going with the assumption that the green striped wire was the ground, I installed it following the instructions, pictured here:

After installing it, when I press the brake, the third brakes on just goes on normally and never flashes. Before I go cutting any more wires, I'd like to know if I had the wires backward, or if my device wasn't working.
I'm also wondering if the fact that the third brake light in the wrx spoiler are led might also be the cause of the problem. here is the link to the product website:

I just installed a similar item three weeks ago.

I installed it and had the same thing happen. I unplugged it and plugged it into the other wire and that solved the problem.

FWIW, I hope you didn't cut the OEM wires? You can use a male and female blade connector on the flasher unit and make a short extension wire for the other side also using a male and female blade connector.

In addition, is the unit you purchased for use with LED bulbs only?
