Default feeler: Junior tune anyone?

I've been talking with junior from turbotrix racing in the tri-state about coming to utah to tune some local cars. Basically this is to see if theres enough interest. Jr Has accomplished some awesome things and i think he could give us a good quality tune.

All it takes to get him to utah is 5 cars at $300 per car plus split lodging between the 5 cars. This seems doable. let me know if your intersted and we will go from there.

Im in so that leaves 4 more cars.

I know someone that is pretty clever when it comes to tuning. ^That guy right there, if I wasn't toying with my car myself I'd trust Jason to tune my car. If not Jason, 907bum and Anub1 are also very knowledgeable dudes. Problem solved.

I agree with Aaron, let's keep it local and give our friends the shot at the experience and the cars.

I say wait until Ziptie dynoworks opens up and utilize the proper "tool" for what it is. Aside from tickets for exhibition of speed, speeding, endangering the individuals in the car as well as those sharing the road and possible jail time... YOU CAN NOT, I repeat CAN NOT get a full on optimum tune from a road tune. Yes you can tune on the street. But it is smarter for the health of you and your motor, if you are tuned on a dyno.

I am no tuner and don't claim to be one. Unless the individual tuning my car has some credentials from a place like http://www.efi101.com/ They aren't touching my major investment. I paid too much to have a guy with open source, a tactrix cable and "some balls" to map my ecu.

I don't not agree with James. I tuned my car on the road and then took it Cobb and put it on the dyno for verification reasons. after looking at my logs I don't think I could have done much better on a dyno than on the road.

I hope ziptie's dyno works out. I thinks it will be about 125 an hour for the dyno

Tune $200.00
dyno time $125.00 an hour. I am guessing 3 or 4 hours (that's what we spend on a good tune.)
$700.00 for a propper dyno tune.

we will be more than happy to work with ziptie if they will rent the dyno to us.

I know, we just wrecked your thread, sorry man

Can you do "live tuning" with Open source?

i too recommend Jason. After the first few runs and multiple blow outs of coupler and random vac lines. My car is faster than it ever was on an AP. My $.02

Sorry, but Cleverley Tuned is a S corp, not a tiny little LLC

and James if I racal correctly you can live tune with the AP, but when you submit the final ROM to the ecu you still have to turn the car off and write to it. Tell me again, how a wideband hooks up to your AP?

JK I love cobb, their parts, and the AP. I just cant afford it right now. It cost lots, I am all ready well over 1k into tuning hardware for everyone. With my other projects around the software is a bit low on my list.

Keith and I didnt go to tuning school, but we both are degreed engineers. He is a mechanical engineer for a robotics company and I am a rocket scientist with a MBA. I understand that school is awesome, and maybe someday I will venture into a tuning school of some sorts. Honestly my day job pays way to good to stop and run my car business full time. As for now Utah has to put up with 2 degreed engineers, with a passion for making cars fast. Not just subaru, we have tuned EVO's, and Mazda speeds. We are venturing out into the big world of tuning cars

I know what the tables mean. Some ECU software doesn't allow for live tuning. The accessport has 4 tables for Timing advance but only 1 of those tables is for live tuning and the ECU didn't allow for my car to utilize that feature. THAT is why I asked. I wasn't claiming that the AP is better than Open source.

Jesse, I understand that live tuning isn't Necessary to tune a car. But I do understand that minimum best timing (MBT) yields the safest, most powerful tune for a car. MBT can not be found with street tunes, it is impossible. MBT is something you have yet to understand.

To the OP, Jr. may have tuned a million subaru's, same with Clark turner. They have a good idea where the majority of the tables should be at. BUT every car isn't 100% the same, even if it is the same Model year with the same mods, they won't act exactly the same. Tuning is 90% problem solving and 10% laptop.

True dat!

I can't tell you how many people ask what I think they will make power wise, or ask for just a rom/map with out logging it. Every car, even if the parts list is exactly the same don't yeild the same power, boost, grams per second of air. They are tune differently. It is completely problem solving (especially when couplers and vac lines pop off)

This is the reason why the AP Stage 2 map is actually pretty weak. They have to map a "Blanket" ecu map for all types of elevation, fuel, cars and their conditions, make "power" and still provide reliability. It is always ideal to get a protune done with any "power" modification that you do.

The best part is when you tell them a number they don't want to hear!!

We've already exhausted the topic of dyno vs no dyno, until there is one in SLC to use (ziptie maybe ) it's a mute point. Unless of course you want to brag about how much money you spent taking your car to get tuned, and your drive shaft, and your other pre-assembled parts; then i'd expect to hear from james.

I've met the guy bringing the dyno to slc, if everything goes well it should be a sweet tool that he is willing to let us use. If that ends up being the case we won't need to fly in tuners, we just need people with more money to blow on dyno time!

That was me. The problem is that everybody flakes out. And have of the forums apparently disapprove of "road tunes" I had everybody lined up, then when it came time to pay, everybody flaked out.

Clark would've been $200 per tune, and he pays his own way here and hotel. All I had to do was get enough people. Just to give you an idea.
