Default Cars not running well after clutch job??? help..

I have a 2000 subaru impreza 2.5rs and some time in jan-feb i had a shop install a exedy stage 1 clutch and flywheel, when taking the car out of the shop i felt bucking and the car being extremely hesitent at low rpms or when cruising on gears took the car back to the shop asking them is this normal they said it is....when it wasn't i didn't know much so i gave in and... they went out of business... Does anyone know what could have gone wrong car was completely find before clutch job can any sensor be damaged or electrical circuits during this installment that could lead to this performance.. any input would be great...

Check all your grounds near the tranny, there is one that attaches right above the dog bone (pitch stop) that may have been messed with.

I've also driven Pelican's car and its honestly besides me what it can be, and I like to think I have a decent amount of experience behind me.

Further details are - When gassing it through the gears at 30% throttle or more, its fine, but when you're amybe 10% throttle just moving along, its as if the engine wants to suddenly shut down, and the car VIOLENTLY witll jerk you forward, and then regain speed. This is not a baby buck, but more like **** your pants buck.

I really think it has to be something electrical. Is there a sensor for the gas pedal, maybe TPS? Something with timing or spark. As Pelican said though, its weird since this happened AFTER they did the clutch job.

I just want to help him out so he stops being emo about his car

Can you assume they pulled the motor to do the clutch? It is the easiest way to do a clutch.

If so, disconnect the battery and dis connect and reconnect every connector. Look in each one, see if a pin is bent and not connecting. Heck, see if the motor itself isn't grounded "right".

Peace,

Greg

Wow, I have to say that the shop you took it too hadn't a clue. Replacing a clutch should not effect the engine's performance at all. Unless they forgot to ground certain grounds after they put the engine back in or the tranny back in. Check ALL grounds in the engine bay, MAKE SURE none of them are loose. I had a loose ground in my engine bay which caused my idle air valve duty cycle to go insane, which caused bucking if I just let the gas off and let the gears carry themselves at the lower RPMS, it had a mind of it's own at that point with an open ground.

Sorry to hear this is happening to you also, but it would be nice if you didn't start your own thread in other peoples threads, oh well no biggee now you know. When you did the head gaskets, are you sure you set the timing right? I would check the timing and compression. Check the TPS, if you are getting any CELs, see what codes it is throwing and check ALL grounds, ALL vacuum hoses, and ALL electrical connecters/sensors for anything loose or disconnected.

Sorry but I know very little about message boards and how to use them. As far as timing, compression, etc yes I rechecked that and also have swapped out wires coil etc w known good parts to no avail. The tps is dead on my scan tool for about the first 1/4 throttle so I am looking at that.

bingo! I think we (geronimo81 and I) found it's supposed to be .35 VDC when at idle, key on engine off. Generally speaking, OBDII TPS's will read between .5 (@idle) and 4.5 (@WOT) VDC, leaving the the .5 VDC at each end for diagnostic purposes. If the computer sees < .5 it assumes shorted to ground, if it reads > 4.5 it assumes shorted to power. The exact values vary manufacturer to manufacturer and even model generation to generation.
