Default Rallying this week

It's the next round of the Canadian series on Friday & Saturday

http://www.rallyedefi.com/pages/accueil_en.asp

After Rocket Rally did such a good job unballing Pat's car from the last event he better put it to good use this weekend. Straight after Defi is Targa Newfoundland.

There's also WRC Rally Japan to look into.

Here's some examples of the work that went into the rebuild...

No live broadcast for Defi. Twitter, SpecialStage, Facebook and the event website are all you can use during the event. TV will probably broadcast on TSN just before the next event which is our home BC event next month (PFR).

WRC is tape delayed in the UK and airs each evening. For live updates follow rally radio on wrc.com. That's pretty interesting rally talk for background noise.

Just 3 stages to go at Defi.

Pat dropped 11 seconds on stage 1 and 35 seconds on stage 2 to Antoine. Since then they have never been more than a second apart. Unless Pat pulls a rabbit or Antoine makes a mistake it looks like they will finish in that order.

40 something seconds is a big ask in just 3 stages.

Antoine 1st, Pat 2nd. Pat had a flat on the last stage but was still 40 seconds behind going into that last stage.

I believe Pat now leads the championship and Antoine is 2nd (not sure though).

Defi is scheduled to air on TSN October 23rd.
PFR is our local event and comes in just 3 weeks. Oct 1/2 in Merritt.

I thought I already said that in the 1st post. Doesn't hurt to remind everyone though.

It is in Merritt and it is in 3 weeks. October 1st & 2nd.

For some, the weekend starts on Thursday afternoon when the teams are gathering and doing recce. That afternoon is often when the top teams will run some test stages to shakedown the cars. Usually they don't mind you being there as long as you stay out of the way if things are tight.

On Friday morning the teams are all doing recce where they transit each of the stages and make their pace notes. Then in the afternoon their cars have to be checked for legality. That afternoon is a good time to chill with the crews and see the cars up close. There's not much happening but if you want to meet and chat that's a good time to do it.

Around 5:30pm Friday the rally starts and they run some stages until about 10pm. If you leave Vancouver around 4-5pm you can usually make it to some of the stages that evening as they tend to be alongside the highway into Merritt. I don't know the stage schedule for this year but usually you'll see activity around the Comstock exit before you get to Merritt.

In previous years they have also run a short stage downtown around the streets. From the website it looks like they will be doing the same this year. That's usually at the end of the day before everyone heads to the pub (the one with bright lights next to the highway).

Saturday contains the main stages. That's 9am-8pm and then there's an after party somewhere in town where they hand out awards and you can hear all the sob stories about punctures and blown turbos or how trees jumped into the stage from nowhere.

Middlesboro Pub is the place to hang out at the end of the day on Friday.
Boston Pizza is the after party on Saturday.
The after-after party could be anywhere (hint Best Western).
If you go to that be prepared to be drinking until the sun comes up.

This map should help
http://www.pacificforestrally.com/spec_points.htm

Closer to the event that page should have the 2010 spectator guide up with a schedule for spectators.

If you can, team up with someone who attended before and knows what's going on. That usually makes getting in and out of the stages a lot easier.

If you do go up on Friday night, please check the weather forecast. Even the June event has seen snow on the higher elevations of the highway.

If you have ham radio, tune into the Iron Mountain repeater to listen to rally HQ during the rally.
