Default Annual Tri-club meet, August 24-25th... date is now changed....

It's that time again..... I'm starting to plan a tentative date for all three clubs (Montreal, Toronto and Ottawa) to attend.

Location: Kingston, Ontario
Date: August 17-18, 2002

This date seems the best time frame since there's no big event to my knowledge (rallying, etc.....)

As you know, Kingston (http://www.city.kingston.on.ca/) is ideal central location for all 3 clubs to meet which is about a 2 to 3 hour drive at most from each city.

For this year, I would like to make an weekend event. I have talked to Shannonville race track and Nelson race track is available for the Saturday the 18th (www.shannonville.com). Other events, we could have is a TSD rally (170kms) which Jens has already mapped out. These events would be held on Saturday (the TSD could be held on Sunday also). To rent out the track (Nelson) from 5:30pm and on is $250 (+ GST) per hour with a 2 hour minimum. At 20 cars, cost would be $40-50 each. For the TSD, if it's an official event, we have to pay the insurance premium to ASN Canada since TSD events aren't covered under the basic policy... Cost would be around $20 per team (minimum of 10 teams).

For the Sunday, I've been in contact with the St-Lawrence club. They are holding a Solo2 event on Sunday, August 18th, 2002. Cost is $25 (if I remember right). The location of the event is at the Picton Airport. Here's the directions from Kingston. Picton is about 30kms from Shannonville race track also.

Directions to Picton, Ontario from Kingston:
1: Start out going West on QUEEN ST/PROVINCIAL ROUTE 2 W towards MONTREAL ST by turning right. 0.80 km
2: Turn RIGHT onto DIVISION ST. 3.75 km
3: Stay straight to go onto DIVISION ST/CR-10/PERTH RD. 0.31 km
4: Turn LEFT to take the HWY-401 W ramp. 0.50 km
5: Merge onto PROVINCIAL ROUTE 401 W. 49.27 km
6: Take the HWY-49/MARYSVILLE RD./CR-15 exit- exit number 566- towards TYENDINAGA M.T./PICTON. 0.43 km
7: Stay straight to go onto ramp. 0.22 km
8: Turn LEFT onto CR-15/MARYSVILLE RD/PROVINCIAL ROUTE 49. 0.47 km
9: Stay straight to go onto PROVINCIAL ROUTE 49. 0.78 km
10: PROVINCIAL ROUTE 49 becomes PROVINCIAL ROUTE 49/PROVINCIAL ROUTE 2. 4.20 km
11: Stay straight to go onto PROVINCIAL ROUTE 49. 19.31 km
12: Turn RIGHT onto CR-6. 0.93 km
13: Turn LEFT onto CR-5. 3.47 km

Total Estimated Time: Total Distance:
84.44 km (45-50 minutes)

For some people, they're probably drive down and drive home the same night. Kingston has a decent night life with 2 large bars (mind you it's not as big as some of the bars in the all 3 cities but it's still a college/university town).... If people are staying, I could provide with hotels, motels or bed and breakfast sites. There's also the ideal of camping for the weekend.

For the meeting location on Saturday around noon, we could do the same as in the previous years where we all meet at the RAXX Billards hall (since parking was plentiful) and they had a full restaurant services. Another option would be to rent a park facility where people could eat, relax, play some soccer or ball, etc.....

If you have any comments, suggestions, or would like to attend, please email me at robin@ottawasubaru.com. More info to come as this is to see what interest there would be for the 2002 event.

PS..... For Shannonville, we'll need to book it soon. If we book it, we'll need to place a non-refundable deposit.

Tks.

I'd really like to attend this, would it be ok if I brought my Jetta ? Its much more suited to auto-x type events than the Legacy [ howling my all-seaons really isn't that much fun ]

Just as good, we set the 19th as our moving day to the new house so that weekend is a total write-off. The following weekend would be fine with me.

It's going to be the 24-25th.....

The St-Lawrence club is sending in the papers to have the insurance for the 25th for a solo2 competition...... They have an 85% of yes they can use the Picton Airfield manager to use their faciliies....

I'll create an official website on the www.ottawasubaru.com and to have everything posted..... details, dates, timing, etc....

For the Solo2, I'll create something where people could prefill their info..... to help out pre-scrutenering....

More info..... to come.....

Hey Robin,

do you have to be an active member of the Ottawa Subaru Club or local Ontario Tri-club to participate? I have a few friends who could be easily convinced to participate (BMW M3, Celica GTS, and IS300 owners) and it might help make for some healthy competition!

Dave.

Dave,

We didn't rent the track at Shannonville.... it wasn't available.... On Sunday, the St-Lawrence club will be holding a solo2 event...

Anyone is welcome to it and compete....

For the meet, it's open to any subaru owner.... if you want to come, and you're not a club member (of the 3 clubs), you're more than welcome.... It's more a gathering of subbie owners...

For the meet info, I've posted some info here.....

Are you planning on going? Here's the final details......

For the 24-25th weekend..... I have been trying to reserve a park area for the club meet but that portion of the event is cancelled.....

I've talked to RAXX Bar & Billards (see map below) and they were our rain location. Now, it's official, we'll be meeting at the RAXX location for the Tri-club meet. I've talked to the Stephanie (manager) and she said they'd have 3 servers there for us but she did ask to be patient. Last year, the service was slow but they were short staffed. On the evening, most of their staff will be working for a big BBQ party they have starting around 6pm and on......

The outdoor activities will be cut downed unless we can find a park close by but it's something that we could decide at the lot itself.
For Saturday:
The plan is to have everyone meet up around 12pm to 1pm at RAXX.......

This way we can enjoy a full day in Kingston (for those who plan on only staying for the day).....

For Sunday, there's a Solo2 event going on in Picton, Ontario held by the St-Lawrence club. The cost is $25 or $30 including food. Rob (from the St-Lac club) needs to confirm which will be availalbe.

For Directions to Picton, please visit this site:
http://www.geocities.com/atseaca/Directions_Picton.htm

From Kingston, it should take about 45 minutes. From Kingston, it's best to take the 401 West and then the HWY 49 south at Marysville....

Here's a good map of the Picton Airport:
http://www.geocities.com/atseaca/StLAC/pictonmap.jpg

For the SOLO2 event, it's probably best to show up around 8:30-9am...... since they will need to inspect your cars, etc....

Also, you will need your own helmet (Snell M95 or SA95 or higher)..... unless you're sharing with somebody else. The club doesn't have any rental helmets.

What's going on in Kingston........

During the weekend of the 24-25th, for those planning on staying for the night, there's plenty of things going on.......

There's the annual Blues Festival (http://www.kingstonblues.com/). Cost is $7.

Fort Henry (http://www.forthenry.com) has the Historic Trades Day (Saturday August 24, 2002, 10 A.M. - 5:00 P.M.). You can tour the fort at 4pm.......

For more ongoings around Kingston, or more information on business, etc.... here's a good ressource site:

Here's a list of hotels in Kingston (please note, as you go down the list, prices are more expensive):

Default Directions to Picton Airport for solo2

Take 401 West and turn off at the Marysville exit and head south as you would to go to the Shannonville track but this time, remain on the road (ie straight ahead rather than right at the first intersection).

You will (after about 15 - 20 minutes) be coming into Picton.

At the stop sign, turn right to go along the main business street.
(Its actually a T-Junction with traffic from the left coming up from the ferry).

-so another option is from Kingston to take Hwy 33 for a scenic and slower route and use the ferry or conversely, on your way back use it.

As you come almost to the end of the business area, turn left at the LCBO(or is it a Beer Store, can't remember)and drive for about 5 minutes and asyou just begin to get into the country, you will see a sign indicating the airport on a side-road approaching from your left. (Plane picture, I think). Turn left at this road, which climbs up a steep hill and you should see the airport facility on your right. Not sure yet whether the first or 2nd entrance will be open to us.

The course will be at the far end of the airstrip so, once inside get
onto the airstrip (ie beyond the taxi strip)in front of you and turn left and look for us. The airstrip to your right is active so be careful.

Entry fee is $ 30 which provides one dash plaque and one sub. $ 5.00 for each additional request for a sub. Subs to be delivered from the Picton Subway around lunch time. Drinks will be available at $ 1.00 each.

(taken from the ST-Lac club)...
