I think I have a High beam on the drivers side partially burnt out but maybe it is possibly a relay or the switch stalk, so I made a table to create a diagram of what I'm dealing with. Canadian car with stock halogens, not HID, with DRL. Note, the low beams have a little extra bulb in the lower outer corner.
Here is what I've got facing the car: I'm totally inept at reading a wiring diagram or properly diagnosing this myself. I'm guessing I should replace the drivers side high beam bulb first & see if this solves the problem. Anyone got a better idea?

A relay is usually either on or off.
Before you had this problem, with respect to the DRL's, how are they supposed to normally function? Meaning, when all of the lamps are normally off and the parking brake is disengaged, the DRL's are now active. Which lamps are dimly illuminated? The low beams only? The high beams only? Both? I ask because DRL's are either the low beams or the high beams, not both. I would say that if the car utilizes a switched-ground system that the problem is more-than-likely in the column stalk-switch itself. |

The driver side headlight fuse is probably burned out. Check it.

I think the DRL light up both high beams with limited power & are activated when the emergency brake lever is released. I doubt it is the switch - the switch is common to both driver's and passenger lights, if it works on the passenger side it is working. The relays and DRL relays are also common to both sides so I doubt these are the problems either.
I checked the fuses prior to posting. It looked good & I swapped it with the passenger side to see if the problem switches side. Nothing. Problem still on the driver side even after fuse swap. Next logical thing to do would be to swap the high beam bulbs to test. |
