Default 07 Retro Fit Q's

Hello,

I'm pretty new to this retro fit business but I know that cheap HIDs in Halogen Projectors is bad.

I am looking at a FX-R Stage III Kit from TRS
http://www.theretrofitsource.com/pro...roducts_id=141

I got a couple Q's about it.
The HID kit itself is this a quality brand? (morimoto)
55w vs 35w, I thought 55w was suppose to be better? maybe not?
These should go right into my 07 lights? Aside from taking them all apart and stuff, but they should plug/bolt in without other major mods?
Edit: Also since my 07 uses the same ballast(?) for hi-low, Bi-Xeon would suffice for hi/low in one package?

Any incite is much appreciated, thanks a ton everyone.
Prop Retro fits FTW.

The FXRs are far too big for a simple drop in install. Most '06-'07 owners go with the TSX retro. There will still be some trimming but the TSXs are much smaller. The only bi xenons that could fit without major work might be the Morimoto minis.

Ah that is a good place to start.

Finding a set that will fit with minimal modding would be desired.

I did find a Mini Kit, similar in shape to the TSX Retro.
http://www.theretrofitsource.com/pro...roducts_id=237

it seems all the TSX Kits only cover the low beam tho, and are not hi & low beam as my 07 headlamps currently are.

I've retro'd the FX-R's into forester headlights, and those projectors are HUGE. I don't think you'll be able to fit them without major work. The easiest application for the Impreza lights would be the Mini D2S bi-xenon's. They are compact but the output is amazing, far better than the stock wrx projectors. What you'll need is the Projectors, ballasts, bulbs, hibeam taps and the proper wiring harness. If you have any questions just email Matt at TRS, he is very helpful and will answer any questions you have.

Yep, we have been talking via email. He told me they should have a kit that will fit the 06/07 headlight housing without mods! Trying to find out more info.

Ya, they are making a bolt-in projector based on the mini-bixenon D2S. I've seen output shots and they are amazing. I don't know how long until they will be released though.

There are only maybe 4 or 5 HID kit manufacturers out there. They all suck. The only difference between the thousands of brands out there, is that when, not if, it stops working, the "name brand" kits have warranties.

You have taken the first step in not ghetoing your headlights by choosing to retrofit HID optics into the lights. Don't ruin your retrofit by using crappy Chinese ballasts and bulbs. The number one rule of retrofits is to use OEM components. They will last longer, have much better quality control, have a perfectly aligned light source, provide more light, be easier to install, etc. I could go on and on.

Get a set of Matsu$hita Gen 3 ballasts. They are the OEM ones used on STis, and will bolt directly to the bottom of your housings, and actually seal out water, just like they do on the STi. Then get a good set of OEM bulbs like some Philips 85122s. Then make sure to build or buy a good relay harness. You can get the ballasts on Ebay for under $100 used or $170 new for a pair. Lots of Nissans and Infinitis use these ballasts as well. Just search for "Nissan ballast". The Philips 85122s run about $70 new on Ebay as well.

As for 55 watt vs. 35 watt. OEM 35 watt systems are definitely brighter than the kits I have seen. 55 watt kits are just dangerous, and beyond absurd. There is no need for that much light. The people that buy these kits should serve jail time for their stupidity, and negligence.

Hey thanks for the advice, I'm talking with Matt over at TRS now about what will fit and be clear/clean cut off.

I'v also read a ton about OEM vs "Chinese Name Here" and when I setup my kit If i can find and OEM setup i'll certainly buy that one.

I actually drove pass a "ghetto" hid car last night, holy S. Light was everywhere, and blinded me from behind for like 4 blocks....... Just further reinforces the idea of do it right or not at all.

I have done this retro, if you are good with a dremel the FX projector is actually a really nice choice. I have fitted bigger projectors (the old X-5 bi-xenons) into 06/07 headlight before so there is plenty of room.

Here's my old retrofit with the 3" projector

Damn, mini!
I think thats the biggest lens retrofit I've seen so far.
You got pics and videos of the finish product?

As soon as I get more details i'll let you guys know.

I'd be very interested in the finished FX retro-especially how the surround came out.

No modification to the stock shroud/surround is required for the FX projectors. From the outside it looks stock.

With the X5 3" projectors I did had to enlarge the shroud for it to fit, but it simply look like a stock headlight with larger lens on it.

Got a set of s2000 hids. All I can tell you is its a nice clean cut line and you can see far far away. And by far I mean my high beams don't even reach. I never use high beams anymore unless I need to shine something a little higher(usually some asshat in a truck with their highbeams on behind me or something, but besides the point). They look great and not only function great but don't blind other drivers are the road if you point them right. They are however a little pricier than fx ones.

Well my mind is made up. I'm going to get the H1 Morimoto minis since my ballasts are good and should hook right up without needing adaptors. With The Hella 500 driving beams I have wired to come on with the highbeams I'll have 6 highs! I'll try to post up here when I get them installed, Kupkake.

I'll be running the mini's, 2 700's and 2 1000's this winter. Lighting won't be an issue.

Hey Guys,

Placed my order this AM!! (D2S @ 5000k)

First off, Matt is great, very helpful and fully explained everything to me via the phone.
These kits will fit without ANY modification! (best part about the kit IMO)
They come with their own mounting brackets and basically all you need to do is, open up the headlights (as tho as if you were going to paint them), unbolt all your current hardware and then bolt in the new retro-fit kit. (wiring included) This is a bi-xenon setup so you retain the high-beam ability & low-beam all in out compact setup.

My order should be in early next week.
I'm going to be posting detailed pics of the product, install and of course the output. From the test shots Matt sent me they look super sexy. Just as good as my buddies OEM 370z setup.

Pretty excited to be able to properly see the road at night.

Be very careful when pulling the reflector assembly as the socket which holds it is notoriously frail in the 06-07 housings. I hope to order mine within two weeks. Good luck!

Got my order in, those mini projectors are tiny!

I might have some time this Sunday to have everything installed.
