Question GTA where do you service your car?

GTA (specifically Pickering /Scarborough) area members, where do you get your car serviced? I'm thinking of getting a Subaru, but one of my concerns is the lack of dealers in my area.

I'm torn between the WRX and the SE-R. The WRX has more performance, a bigger price tag, and no dealership close to me. The SE-R has enough performance for me, costs way less, and has a dealership which I've used for many years 5 minutes away.

I'm waiting to see what happens with the 2003 models, but the dealership issue will still be a concern of mine. Your input would be appreciated.

I tried to buy an SE-R from Avenue Nissan in Toronto and they were total A**HOLES. Luckily, the purchase agreement was cancelled. I am now waiting for the 2003 model SE-R which will have side airbags with the ABS brakes option.

If anything makes you uncomfortable with a dealership, run away as fast as you can. If there are problems before you buy the car, just think about what will happen after you get it.

Default dealer/salesman

Hing Lee Motors. Eastern ave. /Issac (salesman) People come in from all over Ontario. As good as the subaru is, this dealership makes it all work.

I found Scarboro Subaru excellent. I got a very good discount there and 100% customer service. Alex is the salesman I bought through. Carmen is the owner. Randy is the manager of customer service.

Others go to Marinos's and rave positively about the place. Contact JoeT at the Toronto Subaru Club bulletin board about getting a discount on a car purchase at Marino's.

Thanks for the info.

Has anyone used C&C Motorsports in Whitby? It looks like its the closest one to me, along with the Scarborough location. I've read some pretty nice things about Marino's, but I don't know if I'll want to drive across the city for an oil change. (Then again, I'd be driving across the city in a WRX, can't be that bad could it?)

Automaton, good luck with the 2003 SE-R, I might be joining you if I decide not to spend the big $ on the WRX.

The SE-R Spec-V and the WRX are worlds apart in performance and cost.
Another option might be to buy a Subaru Impreza TS or RS. They can be upgraded.

I don't think the Sentra SE-R and Spec-V can be upgraded beyond what they are because the new 2.5 liter engine isn't nearly as well built as Nissan's 2 liter SR20DE engine which could be turboed to put out huge HP and Torque as was done with the stock OEM turbo SR20DET. The Nissan 2.5 liter QR25 engine has weaker valve springs; the connecting rods are thinner and longer; the engine is open-deck; it has piston ring seating problems because the stroke is longer which causes a relatively high angle of the piston relative to the cylinder walls; it has a rev limiter set fairly low to prevent damage to the engine; the ECU has, so far, been impossible to decode for aftermarket tuning.

Another option is to buy a used WRX or a vintage Nissan or other performance car. The mid 80's to the late 90's was a period when Nissan made "muscle" cars. There are still lots around.

I wouldn't buy a 2002 model now. Wait until September when the 2003 models come out. You will get a much better deal then on 2002 leftovers or used ones.

the best place to buy or service your subaru, if you live in the GTA is at marino's fine auto, they give discounts to toronto subaru club members and special services. check out the club's website at www.toronto-subaru-club.com.

Hi,

I always service my 2000 Legacy at C&C, Mark in service is very helpful, it's a combo suzuki, subaru dealer, and has been with Subaru for a long time.

They are Mod Friendly, although usual warrantee restrictions apply.

I have visited most of the Sub service shops in the East end, I live in Ajax, and they are the best.

It does pay to stay informed of what is going on, but you are here and that helps.

I would NOT recommend Downtown, my purchase experience was fine, but service on a tough problem was very bad and time consuming. One visit to C&C got it fixed.

If you need a referral - let me know.

Andrew

P.S. I am the type that gets the dealer to do everything, including installing my mods, and they have been good. Also includes them in the warrantee decisions if you know what I mean!!

I don't recommend Downtown Subaru (Hing Lee Motors) on Eastern Avenue in Toronto either.

marino's are also mod-friendly, tsc members usually go there to service there cars, the service department is top notch; very knowledgeable and reputable.

I wound't bring my wrx anywhere else.

I live in Scarborough, but I have started taking my car to Marino's. Very friendly and knowledgeable. TSC Premium members get 15% off service/parts. It's quite a drive, but the 15% is worth it.

I went to Scarborough Subaru. Service there was good and I never had a problem there. However, I know someone who had a big issue, but it wasn't Scarborough Subaru, it was with the Subaru of Canada Rep.

Biggest reason I tried Marino's was other TSC members recommened it and the 15% isn't bad either
