Default 96 Legacy crank pulley torque

Dumb question but i just did my timing belt/water pump. How can i keep the motor from turning when Im trying to torque the pully down? 2.2 Ej22

Put it in gear and have someone stand on the brake pedal. If you don't have an extra body to stand on the brake pedal, then wedge something between the driver seat and the pedal. (That works better if you have a power seat and can wedge something in there, then drive the seat forward. )

Just use a 1/2" socket (deep is prefered) and ratchet handle - carefully position the handle and smack the end of it with a 3 to 4 lb hammer. Do this about a dozen times. Hand Impact FTW. The actual torque value isn't important - just as long as it's tight enough to not come loose.

For an automatic putting it in gear won't work. You will have to keep the motor from turning by securing the flex plate or wrap a chain wrench around the crank pulley.
